Finally, after 1 month without seeing a single mountain I was back on the 125 north to see the 8th marvel of the world : Loup-Garou (hmmm... lol not really).

Anyway, I didn't expect to see some snow and effectively, there is nothing remaining, but everywhere on the mountain, the grass is long... except where there was some snow on june 1... so I think it probably finished to melt about 2 weeks ago.

here is some comparison pics from april 19, to today... see the slow melting and the deepness of the "canyon" on the left side. You must know that the place is quite bigger than how it looks, cause of the visual illusion (see pics of may 30 and june 1 to see what I mean) and from the middle of the trail to the trees on left, it's about 30' high. The snow topped about at 5' of the treeline... and the left side of the snow was slightly higher than the right one, so there was in the middle about 20 feet of depth, in late april.

If they pushed an additionnal 20' of depth this year, it wouldn't have looked so exagerated and I'm sure that I would have walked in the snow, today (honestly, I would have climb with my skis in the hands !)

Comparison :

april 19,2003

april 25, 2003
<IMG SRC="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/messages/8/2592.jpg" ALT="10-12" of powder on the right side">

may 8, 2003

may 16, 2003

may 22, 2003

may 30, 2003

june 1, 2003

july 1, 2003

I talk often of the middle Loup-Garou, but this is the upper part. The top part is about 35 degrees, but after the little flat, it's nearly 50 degrees... it's in the right side of the "V" of the upper canyon

While I was going down the mountain (enough fastly, cause of the bugs), I took my inclinometer to see the steepness of the big ones of la Reserve. From T2B, the Pitch 1 of Chute libre have 50 degrees of average, but it has few resting spots. When it goes down, it's in general nearly 90 degrees (lol). the face pitch have 70 degrees. The Lavoie's lower part of "pitch 1" have 75 degrees, on the right side, if you're enough mad to take it (just 25' high). Of course, I wouldn't try to ski the big cliff of la Chute libre, at 96 degrees lolol.

After taking few measures, I was continuing my way down and I did the error to look at the upper pitch of la Pirouette. 2 minutes later, I was beginning to climb it. On the pic, between the 2 green lines, it's an average of 60 degrees. Of course, I didn't hike the top cliff... 25' high at 80 degrees completely slick. It's possible to pass behind the trees (on right) at this place... hairy but possible. It's a real super place to hike... pretty extreme.

Well, with all those bugs, I think I'm gonna wait a little bit before going back in the mountains (unless I find someone to ski in the Chic-Chocs or I go to Tenney)

see you tomorrow night 9PM !
