It wasn't until mid-day Friday when our PD sent out the word that "It's Official" which meant that we were opening for the weekend !!!!!!!!
Right around Concord NH, snow fell and "driving sideways" ensured. After 2 pints at the Hyde Away, I made some tracks in the MRG parking lot and then tucked myself in to rest for a big day.
Up The Double we went. Updrafts charged through App Gap. This also scoured upper Gazelle/Panther. It was ugly, but on check, I
figured if I negotiated that, I would be ewarded. Instead, I encountered some difficult windpacked untracked. But down in the
lower elevations in the lower angled stuff, I found the sweet stuff.
After some chores, I had one of my best runs ever down the S-Turn/P-Bowl combo. Up The Single I went and I drooled over all sortsa' virgin fluff. I couldn't keep it in me anymore, so I unloaded at mid and had an even better run down Liftline/Upper Glade. Going down this, I heard the radio crackle with word of Brennan checking out the closed Lower Antelope which he deemed as very good. On the way up The Single, Patrol 1 got on the airwaves and asked for a volunteer to drop the rope on Lower Antelope - Gawd, I was lucky on Saturday! I dropped the rope and got 3rd tracks and had an even better run than I had on upper Glade. It was especially sweet below what we call "Little Creamery".
In front of The Basebox, I ran into Lars Bruns and suggested we go to L.A. I stopped at the cart path and right when members of the "Cult" started to show up, we deemed it a good idea to go golfing. The cart path alone was fun to ski - no panic stops or rough hoo-ha's to deal with; it was just a cruise on user-friendly snow. The fairways were incredibly good as I had AN EVEN BETTER RUN THAN THE ONE BEFORE! The cart path out was also a fun ski and negotiating the stream was not an issue.
At the end of the day, we were even able to get untracked in the Callies Corner Snowfields - all 25 vertical feet of it with a half dozen turns - what a COOL day!
On Sunday, I was pretty crisp. I was able to get in some gardening and find knee deep untracked. The afternoon was beautiful with a lotta' great perfect skier packed powder and clear blue skies. We spent most of our time taking down the mountain. The mountain lokked especially beautiful without all of the 'boo and rope and discs, etc.
It was the best day we had since early January and we couldn't believe that it was early April - it woulda' passed for mid-January. It's OVER :-( .... but at least it's over on a very
high note!!
