I packed my sleeping bag, sack and Therm-a-Rest and put on my headlamp and skinned up Stark Mountain. At about 9:30PM, I arrived at my destination at 3100 feet elev. I saw no less than 2 shooting stars on my ascent under the stars. I was dog tired and into my sleeping bag I went.
Early in the morning, I had to crawl outta' my bag to urinate (that's the medical term for "tinkle", folks) and I saw a brilliant orange glow to the east as the sun was on its way.
This morning, after hanging out for a while to absorb some rays and eat a bit (cheese, gorp and hydration - hey, the caloric count probably equalled bacon 'n eggs, etc), I skied Fox and found some sweet dry untracked patches. Broadway was a bit wasted due to skinning, skiing and postholing over the pre-season conditions. I negotiated the Porcupine headwall, finding some nice patches and traversed over to Birdland. This was a mistake as the Brave Green World of Birdland was brutally scoured (not to be confused with BRUTALLY GROOMED). Down through some nasty bare areas in Chip' Bowl I went and then on an intuitive hunch, I went into One Way. This had great cover and skier packed snow and I had a great run there.
Nice morning and it tied my earliest MRG ski day (1997).
