White knuckle driving commenced around Royalton on I-89, a little after channel surfing landed me on Alice Cooper's radio show - if you're a Child of the 70's and never outgrew that era like me, you'd find that show amusing (not to mention you probably need professional help  ). Humour was needed all the way to the Hyde Away where I quaffed my reward of 2 pints :D .

After a meager restless sleep, it was time for shovelling snow around the Base Area ......AND OPENING DAY!!! Up The Single we went and when I got off the lift, I was immediately commanded to check Chute and Glade - starting off big! Chute was wonderful with heavy snow that skied well with big turns. Glade was tougher with tricky punchy heavy snow, but still a good adventure ski down through Lower Glade. Up The Single again, and we got word of sketchiness on Paradise. So, I took on the task of closing 'Dise and sweeping it which meant another adventure. Snow was tricky and challenging, but the reason ya' Patrol is to go on intriguing little adventures like that. Later in the day, skier packed trails like Cat Bowl and Quacky skied exceptionally well (skier groomed :D as opposed to BRUTALLY GROOMED  ). Canyon was heavenly, especially the upper part. Skiing was demanding in places, though. For Sweep, I was assigned Practice Slope - clunk!

Apres' Ski was especially silly  . Afterwards, I went to the lodge, grabbed my stuff for a shower before cooking something to eat and found the shower occupied. So, I went for a quick nap 'til the shower opened up and .....zzzzzzzz....next thing I knew, it was 11:00PM with my contacts glued to my pupils and a bruise on my rump from rolling over on my wallet  . Yes, it was indeed a great opening day :D .

Sunday, I woke up starved and grungy .....and starved for some more skiing! I was admonished by the Flight Commander for having my Hat-Head Hairdo a little more hat-head than normal  . Whatever, my helmet would cover it up anyway. For Trail Check, I let Penny, Lu and Margie pick ahead of me - Ladies, first ya know - and since they do not back down from challenges, I was worried they would pick my Trail Check favorite - Panther. Well, I got lucky and found some sketchiness on Panther, but somehow, I always enjoy that run first thing in the morning no matter what the conditions. For the day, we closed some trails and opened some new terrain such as S-Turn, P-Bowl and Cool Green stuff such as Snail and Periwinkle, all of which skied better than anticipated. 'Booing was done by many of us, including me on Bunny. I finally got onto Porcupine which was Blue Heaven on the skier packed there. Cat Bowl skied well and as the day progressed, my turns got better. Sweep was down Panther for me and turns were nice sans a biff on some punchy untracked.

Good skiing was had. I saw tracks onto the Cart Path, but you can have that - not enough cover and conditions were very good on-piste anyway.

Mark, as usual your post are some of the most enjoyable to read here on FTO. Thanks for the post and say no to sneaux!
