Man, I was tired this morning. But, with heavy snow falling at 7:00AM, I knew I had to dig down deep and just find a way ? it?s a powder day at Mad River and that?s that.
I had a small blister from the prior day, so I need a 4x4, a dab of Bag Balm and duct tape to take care of myself after I shoveled the walks.
Uh-oh, 1 problem ? The Double was shut down due to howling winds coming through App Gap. But, The Single was unscathed. For Trail Check, Bart and Jon were nice enough to gimme? Cat-Lynx-Beaver. There were some rough spots ? the wind scoured headwall on Cat Bowl and some nasty spots on Beaver, but these were more than offset by the fresh untracked. I then had my best rub ever down the short Rockefellers.
Fall Line had skied well on Saturday and was even better today. Some woods shots were nice, but much fun was had on-piste and we experienced the best conditions of the year. In the latter part of the morning, I did cruised down some untracked on Chipmunk and did a few sweeeeeeeet laps in Birdland and reapeated some especially nice lines on Robin. Life is good when you?re getting ski nirvana on trails with names like Chipmunk and Robin.
I was pretty beat during my noon time stint at The Stark?s Nest. After this, I considered golf, but got a bit lazy. Instead, I had my best turns of the day in knee deep fluff through Upper Glade to Liftline under the Tower 10 Ledges. I repeated this.
Great powder was found even in unexpected places. The Double never opened, but I forgot about that after a while. For Sweep, I got Canyon which was wonderful. What could I say except that it was the best day of the year so far at MRG and ya? didn?t have to go off-piste.
