During the week, Sam' and I contacted each other about getting together for the day at Mad River. I had a voucher for her and she needed a mental health break so there could be nothing to lose for a day. I had taken her to Presidential Range summits in Winter, rock climbing and camping .......but could she possibly handle the most heinous ski conditions known to mankind? .....uh-oh.
Well, whaddya' know, Friday's storm left a load of candy and the mountain appeared to have become skiable. For trail check, I got my favorite - Panther. WOW, it wasn't just skiable, it was actually enjoyable
. The heinous conditions had become buried! I was getting soft chowder and untracked. It was so good, I repeated the run
. As the day went on, it started puking 8) and I ain't talking about just dry heaves, either. Did a nice long off-piste (still a bit marginal, so I had to be careful) followed by opening up One Way and the subsequent untracked - the Spoils of Patrolling! 8) . I had a planned reconnaisance assignment adventure for the closed upper Paradise sidetracked, but that was the only chink in the day's armor. I got Panther for sweep which was outstanding and at the bottom, I asked if we could fire up the lift for one more run (rejected).' I had been reminded about how much I love snow - skiing on it and just being there when it snows!
For Sunday, the sun was out and more snow had accumulated and it was light stuff! I was excited to do Panther for Trail Check. But whaddya' know, Charlie got it before I did. "You Dawg" I blurted out to him. "Yeah, Mark, I wanted that one which is why I made it a point to get on the lift before you did". Can't blame him. So, I went for Partridge/Slalom Hill. After some trickiness on the top, I had a sweet run threading through the jug handles that always pay off for me. Panther was still there for the taking on my second run. Clouds and App Gap Effect snow and winds did their thing during the day. Some slickness underneath was found on steeper stuff, but given how lousy things were for this season, I sure wasn't complaining.
Yes, Sam' had a very good mental health day. Always remember, there are friends on a powder day
