After the backcountry ski extravaganza and with time in the day left, I did the
intelligent thing - I went skiing again.
Cars jammed the road near the hairpin curve on Route 17. I suited up and was greeted by
Mitch from TTips and then loaded The Single. I grabbed a run down Upper Antelope and
then something else (I forgot). Surfaces were great. I was able to get in on sweep and
enjoyed a Quacky III run.
I stayed at the Birdcage with several others as we were having our annual Patrol Party
there. After the party, I headed down under the moonlight on the BRUTALLY GROOMED route to the
Basebox.
On Sunday, temps rose dramatically as we loaded The Single. I had a great trail check
down Paradise and found deep coverage and softening snow. Ditto for Canyon. I was
advised to accompany and observe the toboggan training in prgress on Fall Line. I observed and also enjoyed some great skiing down Fall Line.
As the day wore on, the snow became heavy and a bit difficult to ski. But it was warm
and sunny. It was tough for me to grasp that only 13 days prior, it had been minus 25
with a minus 55 wind chill and I was fighting off frostbite. Brian, a liftie who caught
me with frostbite, told me that he caught 6 others with frostbite that day and that the
high temperature was minus 8 for the day!
I enjoyed some afternoon runs in Birdland - green heaven!
Sweep was down Chute-Ferret-Glade. With dropping temperatures, I found great snow.
