MAD RIVER GLEN VT ( JAN/29/30)

Well, have returned from MRG and can give a report that this area absolutely needs more snow. On Saturday (Jan 29) the groomed intermediate runs and intermediate runs with various bumps were skiing ok. The expert terrain was in bad shape. Any run with any type of pitch has been scraped down to the rocks and dirt, so you end up poking your way through dirt mixed with snow. In general I don?t think there is more than 2 feet of snow on the ground above 2500 ?and about 1 ?in the valley. The slow lifts are what saved the day as this keeps the amount of skiers coming down to a minimum preserving the snow. The single chair was broken on Sunday (Jan 30) morning, causing huge line-ups on the remaining double. At the site of this decided to bail and wait for another day. With so little snow on the ground any thaw could easily shut down half the runs. Notice how little snow there is in the woods while driving up to the parking lot on the 17.

weird, both MRG no bull reports this week seem to indicate the trails were better last week before the snow fell! can any one that skied MRG these past two weekends make a comparison between this week and last? i thought MRG was awesome last weekend despite some thin cover but this weekend's reports make it sound like it's pretty ugly. :?

It was still great on Tuesday, mind you the area had received at least 6-8 inches of snow. We didn't see the rocks (hidden under the fresh snow :? ), the coverage in Paradise was definately ugly that afternoon as the top of the double.

This said, I had my new skis and the base damage was minimal, just the edges need to be touched up.
