The two oldest of the three kids wrapped up university and headed out to Alberta to jobs in Jasper National Park . Their goal was to arrive early to ride the the lifts at Marmot Basin before it closes for the season on May 4. We wrapped up our family season at Wildcat NH and then saw the kids off to Alberta . Their report from skiing on Wednesday ( April 30) was great spring skiing with good coverage. They sent the old man ( me ) the following pics saying time to leave the Quebec Laurentians behind and head west for good.

Jasper is a beautiful place and not as crazy as Banff which is also "wild' of wild tourists.

Marmot Basin is real nice ski area, my wife loved it except that she had morning sickness at it was -35c. Not one of the top destination in my books, but the scenery is "wow".

Even though I was there in early February 2007, the weather was comfortable. It can be extremely cold, so it's probably quite nice skiing in April most of the time.

I didn't mean it was a cold place in general. Locals told us it was the coldest spell of the season. That was 3-days on the last week of March 2002.

Anthony, you can tell your kids that is still liftservice skiing in the Laurentians while Marmot is closed.

About the craziest of Banff, that was a Summer season statement. Summer is peak season in both parks, but Jasper is much quieter and just as beautiful.
