I'm just back from a huge trip up north.

We've seen so much snow over there... there is still enough natural snow on the ground on the low elevations (i.e. even beside the road)

On the mountain, there was not 50 ways to get down T2B without walking, but it was skiable in the glades top to bottom, with 50+ INCHES HIGH of coverage on the top glades. (quite less on the lower glades, but still skiable)

We took a lot of pics + videos and I'm going to put them here later in the day, as I'm in a course now.

This was saturday.

On saturday night, we went to Mt Grand-Fonds. There was quite less snow there, but it was possible to ski almost T2B on a very long advanced-intermediate trail. (average steepness = 20 degrees on 800' high) It was quite special to ski it in the dark (without flashlights)

On sunday, we decided not to return Mt Grand-Fonds (at 10 miles from the house), to even not take a look to the Massif... just taking a fast look to the all bare Ste-Anne.

We were heading to the MASSIF DU SUD.

3 weeks after our last visit, where the glades were still deeply covered, we were sure to find some super skiing to do in the glades. We arrived there and ... FU** where's the snow ????????

There was not enough snow to ski... impossible to believe.

So we visited the region, we took a look to La Crapaudiere, a ski area at 20 minutes from the Massif du Sud and the Mt Orignal, at 10 minutes from La Crapaudière.

After that, we headed up north to get back to Quebec city. We visited Le Relais, which was mostly bare and with very big fences (cause of the summer activities) so we decided not to ski it. We went to see Mt St-Castin (closed since 1997) and mont Hibou (closed in the 80s) and we headed to Stoneham, where there was still a lot of snow in the snowpark !!!!!!!!

So finally we skied some nice runs in the snowpark + the neighbour trail, even though some long spots were on the grass on this last one, but we didn't care and skied down to the bottom of the lift (and even to the car, just for laugh)

There will be a lot of videos of this weekend later today, it was really one of our best weekend ever, even with the sadness of not skiing the Massif du Sud on sunday !

Hey, here is some pics of Mt Édouard on saturday may 8.

Many of the trails of the mountain could still be open and would be quite easily, with a little bit of spreading the snow. They almost don't make snow, in that mountain, so imagine.......

First Mont Édouard :

Skiing the #3

Here is one of the glade on the top of the mountain. Notice that on the snow, it's some tree branches and not some bare spots. there was something like 50" base at this place.

There is 2 little videos taken in this glade saturday : (you must save on disk by clicking right on most browsers)

part 1
http://www.zoneski.com/temp/laclusaza.mov

part 2
http://www.zoneski.com/temp/laclusazb.mov

There was even some skiable glades at the very bottom of the mountain, just like the "Valley".

You can also see the full report with many other pics on this address :

http://zoneski.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1237

Also, on saturday night, we headed to Mt Grand-Fonds. Here is how it looked earlier in the day.

On the 5 snowy trails, it's the middle one that was the only one (we think) where it was possible to ski down all the lenght without removing our skis. So we did it in the dark. There is about the same amount of snow remaining there than in the Superstar ! hehehe !

It was skiable on about 1000' high without breaks. (Mt Édouard was skiable T2B without breaks, 1500' high)

Here it is in the dark on our way up.

On sunday, after a lot of mountains seen, we finally found Stoneham and its snowpark which was still worthly skiable.

Here is a pic

And here is a very nice video taken by Chris.

http://www.zoneski.com/temp/sto2.mov

So that was another freak weekend in very good company. We don't know how long we're going to ski, but I really want to head on Mt Avila to ski the remaining patch of the huge snowpark, on june 1.
