I can't believe this weekend is the last for skiing St-Sauveur with chairlifts !! sh** it's OBVIOUS that they have enough snow on west 70 to continue next week without problem. Ok, on top, the coverage begins to be less good, but looking to the headwall of Superstar today that just doesn't have snow anymore, I wonder why they can't operate with a little bit of walking here !!! Anyway, there is enough snow just below the summit to make a little 15' wide trail of snow to reach the main part of the trail. All day long, every skiers were hoping that they would change their mind, but it doesn't look like that, as they've already taken the pic with the banner : the longest ski season in Quebec : Oct 31 - May 11 2003. I even don't know if they'll be open tomorrow, as they forecast rain, in the afternoon. <BR> <BR>For the second week in a row... yes, I was far in the field for the Nordique and it was still open, with little coverage in the middle section, but still big coverage on top and on bottom. It was funny to see they changed the entrance of the trail, to need a little bit less snow, but we were not missing nothing of the trail. <BR> <BR>So : the top of the trail <BR><IMG SRC="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/messages/8/2344.jpg" ALT="Nordique haut"> <BR> <BR>And the lower part (you can see there is a little bit of grass, on left on top of the pitch, but nothing problematic. <BR><IMG SRC="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/messages/8/2345.jpg" ALT="Nordique bas"> <BR> <BR>The West 70 still had some rail/jumps in the bottom and the coverage on the whole trail was good, except 1-2 tiny bare spots, but just removing the railjumps and they wouldn't have problem of snow in that trail for sure ! <BR> <BR>The upper part <BR><IMG SRC="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/messages/8/2346.jpg" ALT="Upper Cote 70 ouest"> <BR> <BR>And the lower one <BR><IMG SRC="http://www.firsttracksonline.com/discus2/messages/8/2347.jpg" ALT="Lower Cote 70 ouest"> <BR> <BR>The middle of the trail was better than what I thought, so it appears that they didn't lose so much snow during the last week. <BR> <BR>Once again, I've never seen a cloud today and it was HOT, near the 70s, but the snow was still interesting on both trails. There was still enough people to cover variable costs (about 300 persons) I guess St-Sauveur had this weekend the most open terrain in the East, as the trails together have about 1 mile long and I don't think Superstar have that, espcially with no snow on the headwall. <BR> <BR>I'm sure next week, it will be still skiable top to bottom, with a great coverage, on West 70 T2B + Lower Nordic and the week later, I'm sure few places in the West 70 will still be interesting. I'll surely make the trip : St-So / L-G canyon few times before the end of the season. <BR> <BR>After my day, back home, I entered on the parking of Mt Avila (neighbour of St-So), to take a photo of the big snowpatch on "Express Ouest". I took the photo and few seconds later... guess what... I wasn't even able to believe it, but there was a skier going down on it !!! Surprising, as St-So was open just beside, 20 minutes before. I took a pic and passed my way. Back on the road, I told me : Hey Frank, does it means there is one guy more maniac of ski than me in Quebec ??? 10 minutes later, I was hiking on Express Ouest... lololol. Finally, the snowpatch was about 800' long and it was possible to hike 300' longer in the enough steep upper section of the trail and just make a little 5-6' jump to reach the lower snow patch. So I made it twice, talking a little bit with the other skier that was also really surprised to see he was not the only skier enough crazy to hike a mountain to ski a 1000' long patch near the top ! <BR> <BR>This is the patch

It's my second best closure date (#1 = may 17, 1997 at Tremblant T2B). Nov 2 (At St-So with just Nordique open) to May 10 = 190 days, beating the record of last year of 170 days with chairlift. I'll try to reach may 20 to attain the 200 days of course, on L-G / 70.
