Awoke at Sutton expecting the forecast 20cm of new, only to find a trace. No matter, however, for surfaces in the morning were an absolute delight. First run down Mohawk was a screamer, carving edge-to-edge high speed GS arcs with no one else in sight.

Where was everyone? In the lift mazes, that's where. Sutton on Saturday produced the longest lines that I've had all season, primarily in the 15-20 minute range, less if you opted for the singles lines. Chair V was on wind hold early on, but opened mid-morning once the breezes subsided somewhat.

The best skiing of the day was in the woods. Sutton's woods (not the glades, but the woods proper) are delightfully open in most areas, and an inch or two of new snow sat atop the cream cheese underneath. Fun, fun, fun, especially in some unexpected steeper places between the trails off of Chair I where few ventured into the trees.

Cover was superb, with nary a rock or thin spot sighted, and everything is open. Conditions were impressive. Snow continued in varying intensities throughout the day.

I haven't skied open-to-close in a long time, but I did so on Saturday at Sutton -- it was just too much fun to quit skiing those woods!

Went to La Paimpolaise for après-ski and nearly found ourselves in a brawl with Sutton's village idiot, who took it upon himself to decide when our pool match was "over." Oddly enough, in the process of dealing with the V.I. we met a handful of wonderful locals who eventually joined us for dinner. Life has a strange way of working out sometimes.
