well , today was an interesting one at jay. probably one of the coldest for the season, temps a solid -30 F all day and then guess what happens at 3 in the afternoon. we get to witness the first tram evacuation at jay just past tower two . it wasn't super windy, but it certainly wasn't calm either. not sure on exactly how many people were riding in the box at the time, but considering the temps it was probably all the remaining customers that were still skiing at 3. not exactly sure what forced the evac, but i am pretty certain that it is the first time they have ever had to do it. pretty scary. things don' t look good for the weekend either with the cold air staying in place and keeping the coming storm at bay. I hope that things change for monday, who knows, i've seen it happen before. call the mountain ahead of time before coming this weekend to see if any upper mountain lifts even run with the temps being so low.
Maybe the "Jay Way" is finally catching up with the place, that place needs lots of help.

Yikes. Good thing it wasn't the freezer, at least in the tram cabins you're a bit sheltered from the wind, and you can move around to keep warm.

more positive information from redeyes! keep up the positive attitude!

sometimes "no-bull" turns out to be les-than-positive. I'd rather hear the truth even if its not the news I want.

hey ahhredeyes, if you are not already on the payroll at jay  , why don't you go apply... they would love u in the marketing dept... THIS IS FIRSTRACKSONLINE... not jaypeak.com... the guy is giving an honest report about what went on.. what is your point??????

Cna you describe the Tram Evacuation some more ?
I'm so curious to how they do it !

got an answer to what happened . for those that are interested ..

"Tram had a mechanical issue late in the afternoon last Friday. 13 customers on board plus three patrollers and the tram operator. About 4:30 everyone was evaced - the tram carries a harness and mechanical controlled descent device on board. Cold enough on board that everyone was pretty psyched to take the ride down, and volunteering to go first. Patrol and Lift Ops train together for these rare events (first time ever for the tram, and second time Jay has had a lift evacuation in 15 or more years) and the tram was repaired and back running the next morning. And yes, the snow has been quite nice this week. See you all out there. - Russ Ford/ Jay Ski Patrol"
