Today I drove to Mt. High to refresh my age 70 pass. Similar to the last two years, I hung around and skied the 2 WRODs that were open.

Borderline is the park but features are currently modest with limited snow.

Here's the natural coverage on Headwall, the site of Liz' broken shoulder in 2020:

That snow is nearly 4 weeks old, so I took a pass.

I skied 15,700 vertical, 8 runs each on Chisholm and Borderline/Wyatt. I got there at 9:15 and it was very quiet until 11AM. Early morning snow was hardpack but not frozen granular: you could hold an edge and even carve it some by 10AM. Loading/unloading areas and a few busy spots got clumpy/slushy by the time I quite at 11:45. After 11AM there was more skier density but not enough to be of much concern.

Looks more like the white "highway" of death. Pretty good coverage from side to side on those trails and the skier density doesn't look too bad. When I broke my back skiing several years ago, on the last ski day of the season, I was on a true WROD, about 10 ft. wide that connected two larger patches of snow left on the trail I was skiing. A young, out-of-control, snowboarder smashed into me from behind on that narrow section of "trail", fracturing my L-2 lumbar. Fortunately, it healed completely with no lingering issues. But I learned my lesson to avoid, at all costs, the WROD, either early or late season.

That is my view as well. But it seems the young SoCal snowboarders don't show up until after 11AM. Also, this early in the season the park features they love are minimal. This was my 3rd time, all with the similar attendance. I took those pics to illustrate the low skier density. After I was warmed up I even started skiing faster with more aggressive turns. I'm rather paranoid about high skier traffic after my 2008 collision accident. Don't even think about trying this on a weekend!
