MRG reported 12 to 15 inches of new snow on March 4 and we arrived March 6 under clear blue skies which remained that way for the next 2 days so can?t complain . There was evidence of new snow but nothing like the powder pictures posted from Jay Peak. Skiing was good on packed powder surfaces and frozen granular sections. The problem with MRG is the base in a lot of sections did not have much of chance to build up this year with all the rain /freeze /thaw cycles so 12 to 15 inches of snow can only go so far. I would still rate the skiing above average over the last few days as there was enough snow to make decent turns all across the terrain accessed by the Single and the Double. A good combination was Catamount Bowl followed by Lower Antelope. Chute was also a good choice once past the upper section which was down to a frozen granular layer from wind exposure. Fall line and Paradise had good and bad sections generally the steeper the section and tighter the trees lead to more scraped down surfaces as more skiers were directed into the same trail section. Over on the double upper Gazelle had good coverage, middle Gazelle had lots of rocks showing and lower Gazelle actually has grass patches. Partridge was also scraped down to earth and mud. The Quacky Section and glades off Quacky had good snow coverage. Overall aside from a few areas without snow the coverage was good. Measured over 3 feet of base at the top of Stark Mountain where the long trail passes which is good in comparison to down in the valley along route 100 where there is at most 2 inches of snow on the fields. Mild weather moving in so do not know how valid this report will be in 24 hours.
