Mt. Bachelor, 1/4

Today was my first of 6 in Bachelor, and it was a surprisingly bluebird, windless day. It hasn't snowed here for a while, so most of the ungroomed snow wasn't so good. I did find some decent wind buff in the Cirque. The groomers were great--very long and with lots of fun little rollovers. They are fairly narrow though so it's more difficult to pass other skiers.

I decided to try the backside of the summit even though I knew it wouldn't be very good, but it actually wasn't that bad. The top part was starting to soften up from the sun at 2pm, the center fully was pretty smooth, and the bottom was manageable mashed potatoes. Since it was totally in the shade (which seems to be a theme here), the catchline stayed plenty fast enough.

With light snow in the forecast from tomorrow through when I leave, this was probably my only shot at the summit. I liked the backside a lot, but the front side just flattens out so fast. Then again, I didn't expect anything different.

I do have pictures, but no computer, so they'll have to wait til I get home.
