My Brother and I wanted to get a few turns in before we left for vail on the 26th. After contemplating quite a bit, we decided to head up to mt. high . East opended today, and a bit more of west has had snow blown on it for the last few days. I try to make an effort not to go to mountain high , but baldy dosent have the snow yet, and i wasnt up for driving to big bear, so we decided on mt high. I got up at 6:00am and was in the parking lot at around 8:15am, and then waited in line for about 20min for a lift ticket :( . The riding was actually better than i had expected, the coverage was good on the open trails, and it wasnt too crowded at first (that came later). At around 10:00am a flurry moved in for about an hour and a half, and really sofenefted everything up. Towards the end of the day the crowds got absolutely awfull. Chair 1 broke down, and the quad had a good 20min wait on it. The only place we could avoid the crowds was on chair5 (Conquest), which had no line, and soft snow, so we couldnt really complain. All in all it was a fun day, i just hope we get some snow down here soon.

Sorry, no pics today, left the camera's battery in the charger at home.

Wow, a Mountain High trip report. 20 minutes? You must have parked at West. I didn't even bother going there. Yes, one run at East for 3 hours can get samey but at least it's over a mile long. My first day of season, so I just worked at shedding the rust.

Yah, i really regret parking at west, even though i went to west to try and have some fun in the park, i didnt succeed because most of the people at mt. high are complete idiots who have absloutely no park etiquette, and the lines on the lifts for the park were so long , it wasnt even worth riding the park. The only reason we didnt go over to east was that we figured we would get bored pretty fast because their was only one run open. Now that i look at it though, flying down one long-uncrowded trail is way better than waiting in long lines to ride shorter, more crowded trails. I think if i go to mt. high again this season im gonna stick to east.

They had four or five midrange (at most) table tops on Goldrush and a few jibs at the bottom. I'd never seen that before.

yah i saw those jibs when i was leaving, i think mt high put those in
to try and keep things interesting, considering there was only one open trail, it was a good idea.

the only good thing about MTH is East.. keep the playpen at west..

of course, i don't go there anymore.. so i guess i don't care..

I had been following this and noted the opening of East Friday. I was slightly tempted for Saturday because I think it's going to be worse next weekend with inevitable traffic and projected weather. But both Mt. High and Big Bear are right on the borderline of meeting my criteria to go. I've learned in these situations that if you think it's marginal you're nearly always better off at Big Bear. And I didn't have the time to take all day yesterday.

It's one run on East but it is 1,600 vertical vs. the 1,000 vertical human slalom course at West.

I hit Summit last Wednesday and it was very good..probably about 75% open and primarily PP conditions, with a few hardpacked/icy spots.

Of course, I will not be riding anywhere until after the first week in January due to the holiday crowds.

Summit may be 75% open in terms of lifts, but only about 50% of terrain. Nothing on chairs 6 or 10 yet, and those have the best fall lines.
