Some friends of mine have a place rented at Mt. Tremblant for this coming weekend. I am considering joining them but am not sure of the current "true" conditions. I have been on the Tremblant website and it says "frozen granular" - pretty vague.

Any insight on the current conditions and the forecast would be appreciated.

Tremblant ? In reference to your question on conditions this weekend , (Feb. 12 /13) it looks like this weekend could be variable surfaces with a mix of bullet-proof ( ice) frozen granular and some loose new snow. It all depends on what happens the next few days. Currently the temperature is just above freezing with light rain in the forecast. If the rain changes over to snow before the temperatures drop it will prevent everything from freezing rock solid. If no snow falls between now and Saturday you will be looking at icy conditions, or loose granular on a frozen base. A good alternative to Tremblant is La Reserve with a vertical of 1006 ft at an elevation of 1600 ?to 2600?. This area offers good quality fall line runs without the circus atmosphere.

I was there 2 weeks ago, and conditions were rather variable. There was mostly a little loose snow on top, or groomed hard pack (still carvable). However certain slopes were ice sheets, or sometimes on a slope where conditions had been good all of the sudden you would hit an ice sheet while still on edge. That being said I still had a great time.

I haven't checked this season, but if the Tremblant Issider is still running his website you should check it out. Last year he had fairly detailed, daily reports.

Tremblant - The storm of today centred over the Gulf of Maine only dropped about 2 to 5 cm of snow over the Laurentian area . The Tremblant area only received about 2 cm. So although the snow pack is still in place covering up the ground the skiing /riding will be on a rock hard frozen granular base with a bit of new snow mixed in . Sun exposed areas could soften the surfaces at it mixes with the new snow.
