Hi everyone.... my name is Patricia and i am new to the site. I recently moved to the Albany, NY area and i'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations on good slopes in the area.... Thanks :D

Patricia, you are in a great location. Perfect place to launch to the Adirondacks or Vermont.

Gore Mtn is jus up the Northway a bit over an hour from you. Great mountain when the snow is good. I go there often, and you can read my reports. I will be there this weekend. And, btw, there's a great band playing at the Riverwood Saturday night...the Riverwood is in North River, just 5 miles north of Peaceful Valley Rd (where the Gore Mtn road is). The band is Rick Redington. He's from Rutland, VT and plays at Killington a lot.

There are a lot of seasons pass holders from the Capital District at Gore. Nice crowd there. Very friendly and lots of hard core skiers.

There is also a ski club in your area called the Out of Control Ski Club
http://www.ocskiclub.org/

Joining this club will hook you up with other skiers and set you up to go on trips all over the northeast.

Me too, with my Boy Scouts. We do Gore/Whiteface/Gore for the 3 days.
I hope the thaw/freeze doesn't leave sheets of glare ice.

Keep in mind that Gore has a Demo Day on Saturday. Good time to try out some well tuned carving skis! :)

Patricia, Sharon gave you a good primer. I've been living here off and on for the past 20 years, although I'm about to move away again. It's a great location.

As she said, Gore and Whiteface are easy daytrips to the north. When the storms track south, be sure to check out Plattekill in Roxbury, NY, in the western Catskills.

In Vermont, anything from Killington south with the exception of Ascutney, including Pico, Bear Creek, Okemo, Stratton, Magic, Bromley, Mt. Snow and Haystack are less than 2 hours away. Some, like Bromley, Magic, Stratton and Mt. Snow, are less than an hour and a half away. By following I-87  NY 149  US-4  VT 22-A, you can get to northern Vermont's (normally) prodigious snowfall in a reasonable time, too -- Jay Peak in 4 hours, Stowe/Smuggs in 3.5 hours, and Sugarbush/Mad River Glen in 3 hours.

I'll confess that even with local slopes nearby, I generally aim for northern Vermont.

Hi everyone.... Thanks for your help! I think i'll be checkin out Gore Mtn soon :D
Sharon, thanks for the tip on the band.... what kind of music do they play? \:D/

The band plays mostly originals, but they do some covers by the bands that influence them, Neil Young, Allman Bros, Grateful Dead, Little Feat, Hot Tuna, and they do them quite well. This band plays from the heart.

If you want to hook up and get a tour of Gore, drop me an email

BTW, there will be a demo day at Gore this weekend. I hope to try some other skis.

FYI, as a hint to Sharon and others, you may drop an email to any registered Liftlines user via the Liftlines system by simply clicking on the "Email" button below each message, or by looking them up in the Memberlist. The Liftlines system will send the email, and it will show your address to the recipient but you won't see their address until they reply to you. I say this only because like every website, spam robots scan web pages for email addresses and add them to their spamming list. Sharon, posting your email address there virtually assures that you'll start getting some.

This is coming from someone who gets about 300 pieces of spam a day from his address being listed throughout this website.

The nice thing about Gmail is it all goes into the spam folder! I hardly ever see any spam and really like gmail.

Hey sharon.... are you on the AlpinzeZone site also? There's a few people getting together at Jiminy Peak.... probably on 2/19th (sat)... thought maybe you'd want to come along... :)

Thanks for the invitation, however, Jiminy is just too far to warrant the drive to ski. If I'm driving 5 hrs, I'm going to VT or the Adks. But we have so much snow here, there's no reason to go anywhere.
