Saturday 2/21, day trip: North Slide Tripyramid, skinning up the Livermore Road and booting the North Slide Trail and doing laps to make arcs on the slide. Skiers and boarders are leaving from Depot Camp parking lot at 9:30AM. I'm going and I expect 6 or more others. The forecast at http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/detail/USNH0232?dayNum=1 has shifted to all snow for Waterville Valley on Saturday. It appears there will be moderate winds and light snow from late evening on Fri through Saturday. There has been no more than flurries for a week; the 4-6 inches overnight tonight should pose little or no avvy threat.

Come if you have BC skills on 40-50%. No leader, no instruction...no gear-fiddlers please. Bring your own kit as though you were solo.

RR

It looks good RR !

Unfortunately, it's a bit far for me in Mtl !

Alta and some backcountry in lost ski areas for me, tomorrow !

Have a good trip !

Hi franko...great to hear from you! It would have been nice to have you along, but you can read on to see if you missed anything:

Skinning in was very nice but the loose above and under a slight crust had us booting from where the trail rejoins the slide and above. Those of us with crampons had a decent time of it above there. The ski poles worked, but a longish mountain axe would have been nice. We stopped short of the rollover to easier terrain, probably 150 surface meters short of the top. The main slide was way too thin to even consider skiing. The Eastern margin looked passable, but we stuck to the Western margin (skier's left) for the descent. There was a fair ammount of snow, but the rocks and trees made it very tight and guaranteed base damage and threatened edge tears and core shots.

4 of us highpointed together and two turned back lower. Another 2-3 feet of snow will be needed before the skiing can be counted as good...still, we got a few turns in...not a bad day out.

Hi RR, yeah, it was surely nice even though the lack of snow... but as long as I continue to hike without the skins... and the telemarks... it's tough enough ;)

My backcountry places have spots to hike with ski boots so it's easier for me !

Tucks soon ! (not hiking with skiboots though of course !)
