I left San Jose just after 4 AM, arrived Palisades at 7:45 and loaded Funitel before 8:10. I took short route out of building and skied firm S-facing snow to Siberia. I was glad I had not just worn a vest, but my jacket was not wind-proof and was not warm enough with steady wind of 26-27 mph making windchill below freezing at top until after 9:30.

I saw people in shorts and short sleeve shirts, but don’t see how they did it as when I returned to Siberia I greatly appreciated the solar heated, dark blue seats on lift. I took a couple of laps on Gold Coast which was not quite as cold before returning to Siberia that I would ride 15 times during the day. Siberia Bowl was not recently groomed and had big bumps across most of it. Siberia Ridge into Gold Coast was smoother and before leaving that area, I skied off the day or two old steep groomed path partway down going off the ridge.

I moved to Shirley and did a few smooth groomer laps there before moving to Granite Chief. I rode Granite three times, connecting with Phil and Tricia who run SkiTalk, Pat, who has places in Reno and Big Bear and was at Palisades for her third day in a row, and Jim Forester, who is from San Jose and was an instructor at Sierra Tahoe from late 70s to 1999 and has spent winters in UT since and skis ~150 days per year. Granite was the least enjoyable lift I skied as main Backside must have had too much traffic since last groom and there was soft snow alternating with firm base.

Groomed Shirley runs were very good, especially the smooth, fast race course that was opened to public. After the others left, I followed Jim down many Siberia ungroomed corn runs, usually barely keeping him in sight, then catching up on return to lift. I liked the drops off the Ridge better than the ones near the end of the Reverse Traverse, although both routes had some smooth fast corn. We hiked up the Reverse Traverse on our last Siberia lap. Heavenly (top left), Desolation Wilderness in background to right and some of closed Sun Bowl behind me (and below my left pole).

I lost Jim when I stopped to take photo of where you had to take off skis to get to Headwall Face or Nose.

We skied CII Ridge towards Bullett and did not have to walk. I skied some suncupped snow in Enchanted Forest area that was soft and steep enough to be very enjoyable after 1 pm. I'm going to miss KT re-opening since I'm headed to Mammoth for next two days. Slight delay for construction on W shore of Tahoe with this view. I quit about 1:10 with 34 lifts rides, the most I’ve had in a day all year and just over 28K. Of course, KT will re-open tomorrow when I will be skiing Mammoth.
