Did Ikon fire the first shot adding 7 days at Sierra-at-Tahoe for full passes with no blackouts and 5 with blackout daysfor base passes? More info here although I don't agree with press release saying they are "The closest mountain destination to Sacramento (OK, but not by much in miles to Donner Pass ski areas) and the Bay Area" (NO, Dodge Ridge, Bear Valley and Kirkwood are closer in miles).

I don't think I've skied there since but had one or two days every year from 2016-2019, usually skiing new snow on free ticket(s) from ski show. They lost a lot of trees in Caldor Fire three years ago which must have affected their previous high level of wind protection, and it could be dangerous to ski near the many burnt trees.

I expect to get some days there this year, either when driving up and CA-88 is closed before Kirkwood or from family's South Tahoe cabin. It's only 18 miles/30 minutes without traffic, but US-50 over Echo Summit can close due to avalanche control on E side of pass and get blocked by spinouts, stuck trucks and falling trees blocking highway and/or taking down power lines trapping me on wrong side of pass.

My second FTO post was a 58" day at Sierra.

I remember reading about the large number of trees that were removed after the fire, especially anywhere near a lift line. The goal was to get out any damaged trees that would become a risk in the future once Sierra could re-open. I gather that changed some sections drastically that used to be tree runs.

Fall 2022

Taos will be back on Ikon Base for 2024-25. I'd guess the decision was made by TSV, with encouragement from Ikon to boost fall sales. A Taos Ski Week is six consecutive days with morning lessons. However, many ski club attendees skip the Wednesday lesson since they only get 5 lift tickets. For someone in the east thinking about a trip to Taos for the first time, having to get Full Ikon or Ikon Base Plus didn't really make sense.
