Pico: a forgotten mountain-

ono

pico- alway drive by it, never stop. for some reason, always go to overdeveloped, over crowded k-ton. save $, and get more fresh at pico is what i've heard the deal there is.

google earthed it- it's got pretty good aspect for snow preservation (basically a northern exposure)- and is based right at the high point on route 4 passing through dem hills- good for upslope(?)

know there was talk for years to connect up to k-ton, but no permits or some other development/land issue killed that talk. i do see a trail/truck path that connects to ram's head that traverses from near-summit at pico, winding around- i bet there's some tree shots between the pico's summit and this track.

seems there's a narrow, almost perfectly straight trail (a powerline trail maybe?) that runs direcltly up the lookers right-side of the mountain- skiing off the top, it would be beyond giant killer on far skier's left.

i'm very intrigued about pico- its not as expensive as most, unpopular (more freshies?) and i'm gathering there's a fair amount of off-the-map skiing. anybody have any experience on the mountain?

pico is a hidden gem. i skied there only once back in my college racing days before i could ski and/or appreciate powder. it dumped two feet over night (a race team's worst nightmare) but it was my first legit powder day. i remember taking the upper glade trail and having a hard time of it but thinking "damn, this would be fun if i could actually ski powder!"

that straight line on google earth is probably the old poma line since removed. the trail is not part of pico's trail network.

pico's layout pissed me off. you essentially have four pods and the lower high speed quad is essentially useless except for moving you up the mountain. the outpost lift is one of the most underrated lift pods in new england.
