Powder Mountain - 2/14/05

The Monday morning report said Alta -2", Brighton -2", Snowbasin - 4", Powder Mountain - 6". So Powder Mountain it is.

Wow! This place rocks. By the time we got here -- 10" accumulated. A total of 16" fell by the end of the day. However, no one was there to take part in this Powder fest. No one. Well maybe - 100 people? This includes a group of 20 Brits looking for groomed pistes -- they didn't find any.

I think this mountain is the best powder mountain in the country. You get run after run after run of fresh powder!

We primarily skied off the Paradise chair. Every run was a powder run. Nothing got tracked up. There were quite a few chutes. A boarder even got himself stuck in a minor avalanche.

At 430, there were barely tracks on the mountain. It looked like Alta at 930 when only the patrol has made tracks. Some is the result of a very slow lift system. However, the terrain within the boundaries is massive -- at least what I could see of it on a storm day.

I will definitely have to come back here when the Powder Country shuttle is running and Lightning Ridge is open.

The next time you come out here without letting me know, I'm going to hunt you down and whack you upside the head with a ski pole! :-)

Some friends of mine were at Pow Mow on Wednesday - they're still traveling, but it should be interesting to hear from them how untracked it still was at that point.
