I'm new to the boards but I thought I'd chip in a "No Bull" snow report even though it was just to Shawnee in the Poconos.
I saw the storm coming on the Weather Channel last Thursday and pretty much determined I was going to drive up from Philly and ski it. I originally thought of trying to make it to Elk Mtn. or even Hunter but I got slowed considerably by the road conditions Saturday and only made it to Shawnee, just after noon.
Conditions got better and better throughout the day as the powder piled up and the crowd thinned out. By closing time at 10PM there was about 8" of fresh new powder which is almost an alien feeling in the Poconos. Green and blue trails were pretty much excellent across the board. A couple icy spots persisted down the center of some black trails such as "Renegade" and "Tecumseh", but the base is now built up good enough that I didn't see any rocks or sticks. It will be interesting to see how this stuff holds up over the next few days as it gets groomed and mixed in with machine-made.
I had a heck of a time getting back yesterday but all in all it was a perfect start to my ski season. I'll be battling the crowds at Montage in Scranton this weekend, wish me luck...
