Summary of the day :

1) POWDER
2) DEEP
3) Blue Sky
4) No line-up
5) No t-bar stopping problems
6) Shefford Power !!!!

Can I say Paradise ? ... yeah, Probably !

After the "tough for the legs" day at Alta yesterday, it was really tough for me to decide to go or not, at Shefford, today.

I finally left the house at 8h55 this morning (very very late for me), cause I was perfectly knowing that this would be an amazing day and that I couldn't miss that ! 10h05, I was in the parking, as there was 0 traffic to traverse Montreal !!

I was on the slopes at 10h30. First climb, I saw that they were opening a 2nd t-bar, cause there was enough people arriving. So I was the first to take it. This is the expert t-bar. It's really tough to take alone. When I arrived on the very steep upper part, little surprise, I was of course the very first to pass there after the storm and it wasn't groomed, so there was some huge snow drifts, it was extremely difficult to stay standed up, even though I'm enough used with t-bars. 100' before the summit, the trail got me... a ski went too deep in the snow and I had to fall... What an extreme hike up ! Cool !

The t-bar line with the main trail on left :

2nd run, in the amazing "15". Deep, deep, deep, steep, narrow, long, amazing, but quite tough for the legs, though !

In the lower part of my run, I went off-piste in the super spot of the lower mountain.

Trail or off-trail, this is the question.
The answer : I DON'T CARE !

Right after, I hiked with a telemarker group with who I skied a good part of the day ! They were looking for some tough woods... I think they'd found their guide ! (we began by the #15 hehe)

After, we took a little trip in the great glade #12. It had the deepest snow in the mountain (may be the deepest snow I ever seen). Even with the good pitch of 25+ degrees, I rushed to advance. I think there was more than 2 feet of powder in that area. The first tracks were enough amazing, of course !

The upper part of the #12, narrow :

The pitch part, quite wide and still a lot of first tracks possible at the end of the day !

After that, we took one run down THE off-trail Headwall. The conditions were totally amazing into it, especially the first pitch. On the folowing pic, we see the lower part of the first pitch. The 2nd is higher, steeper... and quite tougher. Amazing place !

Hesitation before to fall in this 50 degrees short narrow pitch.

Finally he's going !

The other glades were quite nice. This time, we saw a big porcupine + the 3 same deers of last monday. Amazing to see all this natural life. Really natural mountain !

The non-gladed trails were also awesome with a ton of powder, like the "Zero" with its perpetual powder and nice view.

The Mistral was quite nice also, with a ton of packed powder and still some fresh tracks to do at the end of the day on the sides...

So, in general, it was an awesome day, scoring 2nd best day so far this season, behind the unbeatable day at la Réserve on dec-19.

I laughed so much when I saw that there was a big crowd in the other mountains in the townships today while I was always waiting less than 1 minute to climb, with the rough t-bar.

Truly amazing mountain !
- Some of the best inbound off-piste skiing in the province.
- Some extreme challenge with the #15 and the big wall. There is also some great stuff in few other places I found today
- Some wild terrain truly amazing
- Always a ton of powder and first tracks all day long

This was the same thing the 5 times I visited the area and it's right behind MRG in my chart of best ski areas !

I will try to re-ski it this winter !!!!
