Sherburne Ski Trail 1/17

I diddnt plan on doing the Sherby this weekend but after waking up saturday and having temps in the 20's with bluebird skys,I just couldnt stay home.I slept in till 9:30(it felt wonderful) and farted around the house abit but finally got to the trailhead 'bout noon. The ski trail is getting better coverage with only a couple brown spots. Not too many rocks poking through but there is still some brush at the bottom.Waterbars are still not filled in but all have cover.Snow conditions were much the same as they have been.Frozen death cookies(not as bad),wind scoured frozen cattraxx and some solid ice.The conditions were manageable but the 10 inches they got last week was pretty hard to find on the trail.Snow depths in the woods are close to 3'.On the trail i'd say it was 0-18" with most of it being around 5-10".
Winds at Ho-Jo's were pretty brisk, perhaps 30-40mph.I talked with a guy that just came out of the ravine and he said winds in the bowl were sustained around 60mph with stronger gusts. He said he got knocked over a couple times.I also observed a couple fracture lines. One was directly under Sluice, the other was towards the middle headwall under the cliffs.I can only speculate there is some avy debris on the floor of the ravine but like I said,I diddnt see any with my own eyes.
I'm really hoping to ski something different soon like Gulf of Slides,Doublehead,Moosilauke or the Wildcat Valley Ski Trail. As far as resort skiing,I may hit JayPeak this friday.
((*
*))NHPH

Thanks for the report. Glad it's slowly improving. May hit it next weekend if we get a little more snow during the week. I'm hoping Little Headwall will fill in, but I may have to wait a little longer.

The waterfall looks frozen but not filled in.Lower Snowfields looked doable but still pretty brushy.Hillmans is brushy at the bottom but looked ok from the entry to L.S. on down.Left is looking best IMHO with the longest run.I bet Right is good too but I havent seen it with my own eyes.Chute is coming in but needs some more snowmaking.Hopefully mother nature will set up her snowguns soon with another Nor'easter soon(snow please, not liquid).
((*
*))NHPH
