Arrived at Pinkham about 7:30 with light snow falling.Used 4wd from Glen to PNC,woo-hoo!Boy,what a difference a couple of days and a few inches of snow can make!Temps in the parking lot were near 30 and it wasnt too breezy. It looked like the mountain picked up a couple inches of cream cheese. The Tuckerman Ravine Trail still has some inconvenient blowouts to cross at the bottom. They are getting better though. If skinning I would suggest using the ski trail up to the junction above Boot Spur Trail if you want to get to TRT.The snow on TRT was wet packed powder and I had some small amounts of snow sticking to my skins around the Hunny Ravine Trail. No big deal though as it seemed to get better above the bridge.
By the time we got to Hermit Lake it was starting to spit r@in which was freezing on trees and the caretakers deck.Temps were close to freezing and the wind was light(15mph).The bowl was obscured and so were the tops of Dodge's,Hillmans,Dutchess all the way over to Lions Head.
The ski trail was magical! The frozen yellow cat tracks were covered with a silky smooth layer of cream cheese!Fresh cream cheese could still be found on the sides and occaisionally the middle. The waterbars are mostly covered but not filled in,making for some nice jumps!
What a great run!I went with a friend today and he brought a Swiss-bob.I only had to wait just a few seconds after each stretch of trail for him to catch up.He only had to get off his sled to walk 4 times today and it was only short distances.
By the time we got back to the parking lot it was plain old raining but the Mountain Hardwear is still keeping me dry! What a way to start a day!
((*
*))NHPH
