First,Way to go Pats! Now down to buisness.Due to lack of new snow,I opted for a sled run down the Sherby yesterday.Temps at Pinkham were balmy compared to recent weeks, mid teens with light wind.Packed powder covered most of the Tucks trail with all the waterbars and blowouts covered(not filled in).Winds picked up above the Huntington Ravine Trail. There were some icy spots in a couple of windswept areas.
Winds were blowing 30-50(gusty)at Hermit Lake.I had to laugh because when we got to Ho Jo's there wasnt a soul in site.We went up on the deck and my buddy said he was going into the little tourist room to do some sort of gear change.Well when he opened the door he found at least 15 shivering tourists huddled inside!I started laughing(outside)at the crowd of people trying to escape the wind.It wasnt even that cold compared to most of January.Cold are ya?Welcome to Mount Washington.I could only guess how many of those shivering inside the cartakers cabin were calling home on thier cell to tell shmookykins how cold and windy it was.
Sherburne is getting better still. There are a couple of stretches of clear water ice.Waterbars have cover but are not filled in.The trail was terrific for sledding but still marginal for skiing.Long stretches of freakin cattracks.Death cookies are getting to be a more manageable half dollar size, down from the apple/plum size of previous weeks. There was some nice pkdpwd but skiing is still marginal. The base is there. Two or three feet will make the area superb.
((*
*))NHPH
