All that's needed is making the decision to do it.

I can think of half a dozen or more cohorts here who did precisely that, yours truly included.

Add me. Was the best move of my life. You may not make as much money out here as the east coast, but you don't need it either. Make the move!

yup...too bad I am once again with someone who thinks long island..is the place to be......well I will at least get to spend some time there..last season got in 16 days.

You've just got to be more selective in your dating choices.

Long island is flat and full of "joeys".....sorry but you need to pick up a chick from here.

That could be hard if he doesn't wear magic underwear.

Just kidding..., but seriously, if you're going to do the burbs, why not the northern burbs?

That first trip we tried our hardest, and failed, although I was convinced you were going to have a coronary traversing out Patsy Marley. Now you're in better shape than most of us put together.

Had do something to keep that altitude from killing me...thats the hardest part...That guy I met from Syosett. the one we dragged along..the traverses damn near killed him.

The move isn't the only thing...quiting your job or not being tied to it (or other stuff). Looking at the people from FIS or Lucky Luke heading out to Sutton on Monday is the way to go, West or East. I know a few of you might disagree with that statement.

Luke lives in a Montreal suburb. I might not consider that top 10 in the West, but it's certainly not bad. Long Island on the other hand is marginal at best to anyone for whom skiing is a priority.

The alpine touring gear discussion is moved here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9131

Luke lives in a Montreal suburb? Montreal isn't LA. Urban sprawl isn't even close to reach Bromont. :-D Regardless of where he lives, as Admin stated in his comment about being tied down, you need to be able to free yourself for other activities to take advantage of it. But yes, I agree, living in Long Island and skiing on a short notice is harder to do as living in Ottawa where the closest chairlift is 19km from my house.

Excuses and rationalizations for not doing anything, sitting on your butt, and complaining again for another season about yet another series of rain/hard freeze events and a season that ends in April (or March). As we've said, if someone really wants to do it, they can - it's just a decision and figuring out a strategy. What's really lame is to blame your significant other/partner/spouse for "not wanting to move".
