Ski La Réserve - Southern QC - JUNE 1, 2003 !!!!!!!!!

I'm skiing since 1988 and skiing in june was for me an impossible dream... until today.

I was out of me, this morning, looking the weather at home which was some rain with winds, compared to the "sun" they were forecasting yesterday night, for today. After looking to few weather websites, I found one that was forecasting not so bad in the Laurentians, for the afternoon. I took my chance with my friend Jo to head back to this incredible trail.

Arrived there, like always, there was some good clouds around the mountain and it was really blue over Mt Garceau, 5 miles away (it's always the same...) At least, it's good for the snow in winter ! But at least, no rain and the clouds were not really looking like rain clouds.

I was ready !! (2nd time of my life I skied with jeans)

So we hiked the lower mountain and arrived on the snowpatch, my friend was really impressed, as she didn't think it could remains so much snow in june !!

Cold temperatures, in the mid 40s, but no wind. No bugs, no problem

It's fun to have some pics from below with a skier on it, cause it's easier to see the size of the snowpatch. When there is nobody, it looks quite little, cause the trees are extremely high, on the left side of the canyon (that is really impressive to see)

So here I am, on the lower part of the snowpatch (by the way, I'm near 6')

And at the end

So I made just 6 runs as I wasn't alone today. I went just twice on top of the snowpatch, cause there is now a walk spot in the middle of about 10' long. The snowpatch length was about the same long than 2 days ago, but the times I only took the lower part (without walking), it's something like 450' long.

It's melting enough fast, so I don't know how much long will remain next weekend. But if the weather is good, friday, you can bet a 2$ on me skiing for a last time this season ! (in southern QC at least)

Skiing in june !!!!! a dream come true !!!

Sorry, just testing something in the system.

Hey, by the way, I think I forgot to mention that the snow was ugly (in case you didn't remarked by yourself lolol)

Also, there was still a bit of snow on Mt Tremblant. I hiked Mt Garceau near la Reserve and from there, we were seeing some white in the big Snowpark of Tremblant's north side. As it's over 20 miles away, it was surely an enough substantial amount of snow if we were able to see it. Probably the edges of the pipe and few tops of big airs.

About Garceau, still a good amount of snow in "Les Cimes", in the giga rocky place. (in fact, they dynamited a big cliff to make a trail, so it's pretty rocky and need an extra snowmaking amount to be open. It simply didn't open during 2001-02 season, even though it's a major trail), but last season, they opened it.

Sorry to use the bulletin board for this, but I really needed to have this pic online :~) (I won't do that too much often)

At least, this is a really nice pic of that epic day ;)
