committed fernie guy thinking eastward (tried lemasssif last year and was fairly impressed). Am flexible re time. Mt. Whiteface sort of has my fancy. Is there enough terrain there for 4 days ? all comments or alternatives appreciated. For frank What do think of massif du sud?

Hi releasetom- I usually get one trip to the East in per year (from Ohio). I've gone to Whiteface 2 out of the past three years, Smuggler's Notch once, Sugarbush, and Killington once in the far past. I'd say Whiteface is good for 2-3 days. My recommendation would be to spend 2 days there then hit Stowe, Sugarbush or Jay for a couple of days. I've often thought of doing 1 day at each on a trip but the tix are usually cheaper if you buy a 3 day pass. The distances aren't bad- only a couple of hours. Oh, I forgot- if you don't snowboard- Mad River Glen also. Whiteface is tall and steep but doesn't have the prototypical narrow eastern trails. It could use more intermediate terrain and the bottom of the mountain is a bit of a long runout. But if there is good snow, the top is fantastic.
