Snowmass 3.27

Skied snowmass. Did the hanging wall, cirque and all that. Plenty of snow. I think Aspen highlands is a far better mountain as well as Ajax. The bottom two thirds of Snowmass should be called flatmass. I like the Aspen mountains as they have a lot fewer people than Summit County and Vail, and things get skied off slower with less competition. The same thing goes for Alta/Snowbird, I can't imagine rolling in at 9:30 there and not worrying about getting the good lines. The mountains at Aspen are pretty laid back in comparison

I agree with nearly all of the above. For a large destination, Aspen/Snowmass is one of the most crowd free. But most of Snowmass is flat and you have to ski quite a bit of that to get back to the interesting stuff. That can be a virtue on a powder day, sort of like Solitude.

Looks like you did well with snow, as I have on 2 of my 3 trips there. But the stats say Vail has a big snowfall edge over Summit County and Aspen/Snowmass. At any rate this has been a huge snow year for the I-70 ski areas, one of the reasons I'm going there for my next destination trip.

Now why ya wanna upset egieszl?

I'm not going to get upset. If you prefer Highlands or AJAX then be my guest. One less person to compete with for first tracks. I like Highlands a lot and AJAX is pretty good, but Mt. Baldy sucks.
