Woooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhoooooooooo!!!!

St-Sauveur has just announced it will open tomorrow!

Both the Nordique and the Côte 70 West trails will be opened, serviced by the triple. Grooming will be done starting at 4AM, to have everything ready for 9AM.

They also have a 2 for 1 special for the opening day (printable coupon on website).

I'll be there.

Title should read: MSS wins the race, ex-aequo with Belleayre!!!

Belleayre (NY) website has been updated and announces "tentative" opening tomorrow too.

So it looks like K-mart will be at least third in the race this year... quite disappointing.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you !!

And finally my @£¢¬£¦£¤ of internet is back. It wasn't the time to lose internet during 24h holy ****

Really nice to see it open finally !!!!!!!

Bretton Woods, has pics and they say mid november doesn't look like it will be tommarow though, sometime next week hoepfully.
bretton woods
porter

Hey, if some of you are in for a drive, Marc Guido is coming tomorrow to join Max and me at 10h30 at the base of the Nordic triple chair.

the first FTO day of the season... and it's 2 for 1... so 12,50$ CAN for the day (it will be crowded though... ish)

Just got back from the Albany Snow Expo. Spoke briefly with the Belleayre rep at their booth -- it ain't gonna be tomorrow for them, so St.-Sauveur gets the victory solo. Funny, even the Jay Peak rep at the show (which is also owned by St.-Sauveur International) was unaware of tomorrow's opening.

Yep, I'm going to drive up tomorrow for the news item, shoot some roll for this season's documentary film, etc. Come on, now, isn't anyone else up for some "first in the East" turns tomorrow? I figure that it should be about 3.5 hours of driving from here in Albany, barring any significant border delays. A few of you FTO BBS regulars have a much shorter drive than that!

Now, where did I put that ski wax again??

Oh, BTW, Frank...how are the roads up there right now? Dry? I still have bald summer tires on the car.

I think there is no problem for the roads, Marc, except the fact that the minimum for tonite in the north is -16c !!!!!!!!!!! (this is close to 0F). So it's gonna be super cold tomorrow morning, but will reach -2c (about 30F) during the day. There was no rain in the last days, so it shouldn't be icy even with the fast freezing.

Sad for Belleayre...

I rush to imagine that St-Sauveur is the first real ski area to open before Killington in the last 40x years ! coooool !

If someone else is tempted by the trip, to reach St-Sauveur, you manage to arrive on the Highway 10, passing by the I-91 (changing in I-55 in Quebec) or the I-89 (changing in Road 133/I-35 in Quebec) or the I-87 (changing to I-15 in Quebec). And you traverse the St-Lawrence river to Montreal on the Highway 10 by the Champlain Bridge (coming from the I-87, you may have to take the road 132 to the I-10... not sure). Anyway, after the Champlain Bridge, you follow the indications for the I-15 (Décarie) and later the I-40 (Métropolitaine). Once on the I-40 East (and I-15... same road), you stay on the left track of the road, cause the exit for the I-15 north is on the left and there you are on the I-15 north and you just have 58km (about 35 miles) to drive up to St-Sauveur. You exit at the exit 58 and take the "Chemin Avila". At the 2nd stop, you turn on left (the 1st stop is Mt Avila) and you follow the mountain bottom about ½ mile to arrive in the long parking lot of MSS. You can also exit at exit 60, but you have to pass in the traffic jam of St-Sauveur and it's less easy to find the way to the mountain, IMO.

Hope some of you will come !

PS : it looks quite complicated, looking to this, but in fact, it can resume to :

Take Highway 10 up to Champlain Bridge
It changes to I-15 ... follow it until you're at St-Sauveur

(less complicated this way... isn't it ?)

Frank's directions make sense for someone from NE VT or northern NH. For anyone else, that's the bloody long way.

Anyone from VT, southern or central NH, or other points in that general direction would take I-89 to the border at Phillipsburg, where it becomes the 133. 133 becomes the 35 in St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and ends at the 10. 10 west to Montreal leads you to the Champlain Bridge.

If, like me, you're from the western side of Lake Champlain, just take I-87 north to the border where it becomes the 15. Straight up 15 from there through Montreal.

oh man... software development due tomorrow, otherwise i'd be there. how am i supposed to be able to blow off work to ski when i have a job that requires me to be responsable?

have so fun tomorrow guys!

Hmm, I think I went 2-3 times on the I-87 and the last time I did it is when I went to New York in 1997... but I thought there was a little detour coming from I-87 to 132 to Champlain Bridge... anyway, that's probably just the 132 and 15 that merge, I guess. Max would know it more than me...

In general, the people from Laval don't know a single thing on the South side of the River

The people on the south side of the St-Lawrence river don't know a single thing at Laval

And people in Montreal don't know a single thing in both Laval and on the south side of St-Lawrence river :-D :-D :-D

Sad for you, Jonny... I hope that you'll be able to make some turns soon. At least, St-So will be open 7/7 days, starting tomorrow.

Record Low temps in much of New England tonight (I have no idea about records as soon as we cross the boarder into Canada, but I'd assume its pretty similar).

Temps will probably be near 0F in the northern mountain valleys from Lake Placid-Burlington-Mount Washington northward.

Have fun you guys...post some pics.

-Scott

You can be sure, Scott...
My cam is ready !
Warren Miller movie right after the ski day, though, so I will just post the pics late tomorrow night.

Have a good day guys!!! If I didn't have to drive my mother-in-law to the airport in Montreal.

Anyway, the good thing is that I will be in Montreal for two days. The skiing will be less crowded on Monday (but no 2-for-1).

Initially (one month ago), I was planning to ski the next day anywhere, but I didn't it was going to be so hard to get started in East.

Yeah, very tough this year... a little bit like in 2001-02

That year, Killington opened on nov-6, Sunday River on nov-10, Hunter on nov-12 and St-Sauveur on nov-13... and Hunter and Killington re-closed few weeks after. Not sure for Sunday River, but I'm sure that St-So rushed, but stayed open.

Lucky to ski with less crowd monday !
