Stoneham?
What is it?
Where?
30 minutes drive North of Quebec City.
Another ski area with some charm for night skiing and also for today.
Vertical drop: 1000' and 32 trails. 3 different mountains around a tight valley. M1 et M2: mostly intermediate and many snowboard and ski parks with jumps (sorry no big air this year from RCR owner of Stoneham).

M3: mostly expert. 41 (Far Left) and 48 (Right of the quad) for the glades. 45 and 47: bumps. The top of 47: pillows which mean in the East: taking air! 49 or Monstro: boulders and steep (the last one and second Right of quad (most pictures here). Very impressive from the bottom. Are you kiddin' me? Easy to ski but don't fall! Challenging ski trail and fun. Stone-ham like stones mostly boulders to ski between.
46: La Bomba: steep for carving skiers.

Dec 25: 2 inches of fresh snow better than Yesterday at Mont-Sainte-Anne. No golf balls. Nice atmosphere with wood hut on mountain #3 Dinner? Take a special soup hot inside bread. Fire stove to get warmer. Quiet private place.

A place to visit once.

Now in Saguenay Fjord Region. tomorrow: Mt-Edouard! Venturing in the great unknown: part 2 (no copright for this Marc isn't?).

  Looking forward to seeing it again, though your eyes, Wolverine!

As long as I'm at it, on behalf of everyone thanks for the increased frequency of your Quebec reports here! Translating ZoneSki via Babelfish was getting old.

I didn't see anything at Stoneham that I would call steep when I was there in 2003. But with the recent weather I'm sure it was the best call in the region given the quality of grooming and snowmaking that I observed.

Stoneham had big time terrain parks in 2003. I'll best some of the locals are up in arms about RCR's new policy of no jumps. Or maybe they just lost the park business to Le Relais(sp?) down the road.

4 others pictures from Stoneham Yesterday.
Snow conditions were 2 inches on hard pack.

The upper part of the mountain #4 is steeper but not very long.

Looking forward to seeing it again, though your eyes, Wolverine!
Brown velvet eyes!
Time to put some fresh tracks on Mt-Edouard. This morning in Chicoutimi 4 inches of fresh. Expecting around 8 inches at the mountain. We'll see in 1 hour.
P.S. Anyway slow internet connexion is frustrating to load pictures. Many 8meg pictures will be in one week at picassaweb like the others from MSA and Le Massif.
