Stowe 3/16-19

I went to Stowe for my first time on thursday. I live in Orange, MA, so its about a 2 1/2 hour drive, and it was definitely worth it. I went night skiing Thursday night, which was pretty fun. It is supposed to go until 9:00, but they closed the gondola at 7:40, so my friend and I hiked up Gondolier. We got up to the skier's last crossover to Perry Merrill, and traversed over to that to find that it had just been groomed, and since it is not open at night there were no tracks. That was one of the more interesting runs I've ever taken.
On Friday, there was a lot of powder to be found in the trees. Usually about a foot of barely touched snow in Bypass trees, Nosedive glades, Christy glades(even though they were very short), and Tres Amigos. And then by chance, we rode up the gondola with a generous guy decided to show us a glade off of Chin Clip. I don't know if this glade is well known, but Chin Clip was closed, so we followed him under the rope and then skied the moguls until we got to the sign saying "You are leaving the ski area boundary.......bla bla bla, and found at least a foot of untracked powder throughout the whole trail. We skied this once a day friday through sunday, to consistently find fresh snow, especially sunday. My friend was looking forward to doing his first double black, so we took liftline , and it seemed that it was no steeper than nosedive. It is by far the least steep double black I've ever been on. I mean, I imagine it is more difficult with moguls, because it was groomed, but I was a little disappointed. I was looking for something more like Gondola Line at Sugarloaf. We more than made up for that with the woods next to Bypass though, which was certainly double black terrain.

Saturday was the only day that there was not significant snowfall the night before, and it showed. Where there was untracked, it was wind blown, but most places were tracked up. We did get first tracks in Bypass woods though Saturday, even though it was only in a couple inches of powder The trails, both groomed and moguls, were quite icy and windblown on the upper halves, but then again they were like that the whole weekend. We only skied them to get to the woods anyway, so that didn't matter.

Sunday had the most snow of any day, and the glades were awesome, even better than friday. We basically did the same trails as friday, but with even more snow. It was often knee deep, a couple of times where I couldn't even see any other tracks. Sorry I dont have any pics, but we were not in the mood for stopping.
That was my first eastern powder experience, as I'm only 14 and have been skiing for 4 years. I normally ski at Berkshire East and Wachusett, preferably Berkshire East, and powder can be pretty hard to come by at places like that. I've also been to Gore, Sugarloaf, Mt. Snow, and most recently, Winter Park. I probably should have said this all at the beginning, but such as life. I didn't know if there as a formal introduction thread, so I figured I'd put a brief intro in here, if it is a little out of place.

Oh ya, and by the way, I really don't think Stowe is expensive enough. I mean, that place is a steal. 78$ for a day of skiing is pretty nice. However, my dad payed for it :D

Not out of place at all. Welcome! Great report.

would he be interested in adopting a 27 y/o son  nice report, welcome to FTO liftlines. i don't recall beast being represented by any trip reports recently, keep us posted on your home mountain.

Will do, Steve, although I don't know if I'll make it back to beast this year. Conditions are looking pretty bleak.

P.S. My dad decided that three sons was enough
