I know no one here cares about Stratton, but be reassured that little very changes there. For a $72 lift ticket, you too can ski limited terrain (plenty of nice ice, though), and stand in endless lift lines. Now here's the great part -- even though you just paid arguably the highest lift-ticket price in the US, you still get to participate in the great Stratton Marketing Strategy, where so-called Speedy Bears have their own line and get to go ahead of you.
There is some decent terrain there, mostly to the skier's left of the Gondy, but it is served by a lift that takes over 10 minutes to move around 1400 vertical. Most of my time was spent riding the high-speeds on the other side, and then tranversing endlessly to get to Spruce, Slalom Glades, and World Cup. On paper, the lift system looks OK, but the uphill capacity is not evenly distributed, like Okemo, for example.
Why do I bother? My wife likes the Manchester area ...
At Marc's suggestion from last year (my last Stratton rant ...), I did try Bromley for the first time. Very impressed with the overall aura of the place. Unfortunately, with exception of Corkscrew, the nice terrain to skier's lift was all closed. All in all, I now understand why Bromley has kind of a cult following.
