The meltdown this week was phenomenal. I didn't realize what that heat wave did until I tried to hike Stratton and ski yesterday. Let's just say I did more hiking than skiing. The most snow was probably a few 300 yard stretches of snow, and a least half the trails were completely bare. Looking across the valley, Bromley was 98% bare, with patches of snow on just two trails. This has to be the first time in a while that most ski areas closed due to lack of snow at about the same time the skier interest dropped off. Usually, hiking to non-lift accessed left-over snowmaking snow is typical several weeks after most major ski areas close. Not this year; What a week!
