Sugar Valley glades, WF

Does anyone know if the sugar valley glades are supposed to open this winter. I am really looking forward towards skiing them. I skied the wilmington trail last season before the surgery, and thought that the snow quality was better on that run because of the protection from the wind. My guess is that those glades will often harbor the best snow on the mountain.

I don't know. But this information was sent out in an email by the mountain earlier this month:

"Our crews have been working hard since closing day and we will have our new Sugar Valley Glades ready to go, we have done some additional trail work and grading on The Wilmington Trail, Lookout Below, and Hoyt’s High, new seat cushions on the Summit Quad (Chair 6) have been installed, Parkway will be widened, the halfpipe on Bear will be moved to Brookside Terrain Park, Bear will now become a beginner trail, Wolf and Wolf Run will become training for skier and boarder cross, Broadway will become a part of our terrain park, Lower Thruway will return to an intermediate trail, we have repaved the road to Kids Kampus Lodge, and finally, we will also have improvements to our food service facilities at the mountain."

I'm thinking you are right. Such a huge glade at that elevation is likely to hold some snow.

From those shots I'm skeptical that they'll have the upper glades open by the time the season starts. It looks like they may just open the bottom part this year, and perhaps open in stages. It seems like a rather extensive glade. I looked at the terrain on google maps. Looks like it's a double fall line. I wonder if everyone will funnel down to the bottom of the valley, or if people will try to stay high on it.

I skiied the glades top to bottom this past weekend, they only have the bottom part officail as they kinds fed up on the top part and it requires a lil bit of hiking, they call it a double balck but there really not bad at all, just dont be tarded and ski down out of bounds cuz then you'll get stuck. The snow was nice but varied b/c of winds it could be deep in one spot and shallow in another. probably the best on the mountain though. For this out of towner i must say the snow at whiteface kinda sucks.

I just checked the WF site. Nope the glades are closed. I guess I'll have to poach in order to hit them. It worries me a bit because I don't need a season ending injury because of lack of cover.

Only the lower section is officially open-- from the Deer Valley entrance. The uppermost entrance is at Hickock Hill, but that has yet to be signed. The middle entrance is at Lookout. They did not finish work on the upper portion this summer.
