Posting this at a suitably late hour, so Jamesdeluxe knows how fun a day it was today... :) We had the kids back in ski school and my broken-legged son had a marathon Playstation session back at the condo, so my wife and I managed to get a pretty full day in.

Managed to get first chair again with a 7.40 arrival. Regulars are saying that crowds are way below normal for this week and I was really surprised that I could get first chair at that time on two powder mornings. In fact, we've been walking on to the lifts all week - I think the longest wait we've had has been 3 or 4 chairs. Good for us, but a real sign of the impact that the economy seems to be having. We've never skied in the East on President's week before, but that's what we're hearing from the locals. At least the conditions are good - imagine if you combined this economy with a February meltdown.

Snow was incredibly light this morning - "drop off the side of the car when you slam the door" light. Chose Murphy's for first run again, but turned out to be not the best choice because the snow had blown off where it was groomed and there were bumps under the powder at the side, so balance was tough for that first high-speed powder race. But more than made up for it later with great runs in Eden, then in the trees beside Stein's and The Mall. By later in the morning, most of the steep runs were big, not too icy bumps with piles of powder to soften your path. Sun was out first thing, but clouds gathered and then snow showers, then snow later in the afternoon. Much colder also - 14 - 20 degrees.

I was skiing with my wife, so although we didn't get out to the woods at Paradise or Castlerock (not her thing), I could drop in and out of the woods off the other trails with a bit more security, knowing that she would be looking for me somewhere further down the trail. A few scrapes, but I rarely hit anything serious underfoot. All in all, it was a really fun day and we were both done by the time we had to pick the kids up at 3.

Conditions here are now way past good and well on their way to awesome. It's close to 10pm and has been snowing pretty steadily since about 3.30, so tomorrow is shaping up to be even better. And I've got a pair of Mantras to demo tomorrow, to add even more to the mix. I'm a one-ski quiver guy and so I'm thinking of buying a pair on Mantras but really wanted to see first how they would hold up as an everyday Eastern ski, as well as for our annual trip out West. Just my "luck" that the one day I have a pair reserved to demo turns out to look more like a Utah Powderfest \:D/ than the more normal icescapades I was expecting...
