Sugarbush North - 1/9/05

Coming over the App Gap I was still undecided....would it be MRG or Sugarbush North (or should I say Mt. Ellen). Pulled in the MRG lot to take a look...looked OK, but decided to head down the road a couple more miles to North.
Was fairly crowded...more than I expected. No lift line waits, but the trails were fairly busy. None of the "natural snow" trails were open, with the exception of Northway/Walts Trail. No advanced terrain was open.
Conditions were packed powder, with some crust coming through toward the end of the day. Definately edgeable though. They looked to have gotten 3 or so inches over night. Best snow was on the top 3rd and bottom 3rd of the mountain. The middle 3rd was the "crustiest", as it saw the most traffic during the day.
Run of the day was Rim Run. Unfortunately no view from the top as it was shrouded in mist. Certainly one of the best views in the east (when it's clear) IMO.
Anyway, another foot would be nice. Looks like we'll be breaking out the t-shirts and shorts later this week instead!
