Sunny skies, cloudy all around us. From the summit you could just barely see the outline of Mt. Washington to the west. Couldn't see Katahdin to the east because of outlying bands of clouds from the storm over New Brunswick.
Yes, I said the summit. The Timberline chair is running now, and as far as soft snow goes, Timberline was without question the run of the day. Fully in the sun, soft groomed snow, and just enough angle to get up a good head of steam. I sampled a couple other shots in the vicinity and found the 1/2" of snow that fell overnight had drifted in certain places deep enough to make the occasional woods foray enjoyable.
Racers had Narrow Gauge tied up all day for what I guess was a major race, GMVA and Burke Academy had people there, as well as a bunch of other schools. That left Comp Hill open, and it actually had nicely carvable snow rather than it's usual racing-only boilerplate.
Over at King Pine, Ramdown was perfect groom in the morning and I was fortunate enough to be the first one down it. Screaming fast run. Fun. Almost anything ungroomed was work -- the snow had "welded" itself together. What looked to be nice windblown powder was invariably rock-hard. The exception was Ripsaw which had relatively soft cover and gentle bumps. Do not go to The Source - it's not ready yet. I took 45 minutes of side-stepping and jump turns to get out of there. Ick.
Around the rest of the mountain, Double Bitter was nice, Skidder was ungodly firm, Tote Road stayed nice all day, Glancer was unpleasant...
Best bets for now seems to be Ripsaw, Double Bitter, and anything groomed. We need fresh show...
