Drove over to SR from Madison, NH on Wednesday mainly because some of our group had skiied Attitash on Tuesday and said it was bulletproof. We were rewarded for the drive with nice packed powder on most of the runs for most of the day. As the day wore on, the steeper trails has some ice, but overall not a bad day considering what mother nature had done to a perfectly good December.
We were tempted to ski Wildcat, as they were reporting 8 inches from Sunday/Monday's precipitation event, but we also heard some negative reports on icy conditions when we returned from SR, so we think we made the right choice. I would assume that the Cat just didn't do as much grooming as SR does, being state-run and all. In fact, as we were riding past the Cat on our way back after darkness had fallen, we didn't notice a single groomer cat on the mountain. On the way up it was clear that Pinkham Notch did get a significant snow event out of the storm, with rime covering all the trees along the road.
Things got ugly on Thursday morning, with warm temps and fog, followed by afternoon and evening rain. The ladies went to the movies and the guys had a couple of low-stakes Texas Hold-em tourneys. We also build a large snow-thing on the deck, which was all but annihilated by this morning.
This morning the winds had picked up and although it was above freezing at our rental house in Madison, mountain reports were showing dropping temps, so we decided to bug out and head home rather than endure a frozen granular funfest, but after reading Salida?s report on Canon it looks like we missed a good day over there.
