me being the money straped working class joe that i am will ski any where for $1! i got the day off from work despite ASC's short three days of notice. they used the $1 offer to fully push their $199 season ending pass. they even flyered every car in the parking lot, which i was disappointed to see. i hope they picked up every single flyer that got tossed on the ground... not cool.

any ways, typical ASC hassles abound; i was grumbling by the time i managed to get my skis on despite the $1 ticket. before taking my first run, i was wondering if the hassle was even worth the price of admission.

i opted to work the mountain right to left. starting at south ridge base, i worked my way over to jordan. groomed runs were (as to be expected at the river) amazingly groomed to perfection. it was damn cold, with nasty winds up high.

i tracked down vortex for my warm up run, then hit the bumps. tin woodsman had really fun bumps, a little bigger than i like, but fun! mostly hard pack, but fun none the less. on to the lift lines!!! !caramba! had HUGE bumps that totally beat me up badly. hard pack big bumps, it was ugly folks. ruby palace under the quad (not in operation) on OZ had AMAZING snow and bumps up top, but down low was hard pack and scratchy.

started working my way back toward the center of the area and started seeing bigger crowds. by noon time, many of the main veins had already been skied off to the bone, total scrapped conditions with beginners and intermediates flying every which way.

agony got my run of the day, i took it three brutally fun yet tiring times. had to chuckle to myself at the awe of some people i shared a chair with. i silently sat picking out my lines while people asked how it could possibly be skied. no comments from me, i let the turns speak for themself. snow was soft in some places, packed down in others... but bumps were moderate size with awesome lines. that's one long bump run! top gun was groomed, but had really nice edgable snow on skier's left that i made small slow artistic turns down.

white cap sucked. wind was the worst on white cap. white heat was wind blown and scraped. moguls were death traps. occasional good snow on skier's right. shockwave had nice snow on the edges. got in a fight with a tree and lost in chutzpah, gotta remember to put down the goggles when entering a glade. fortunately, only a minor scratch, but enough to make me pack it in for the day.

crowds weren't as bad as excepted! obviously, only three days notice and not much publicity does not help! ASC really can't do much of anything right these days. and looking at the prices and the amount of ways they sock it to people on the mountain, i'm just amazed they can't turn a profit (must be all the depreciation! lol). any ways, worth $1 if not for the turns on lift lines such as ruby palace and agony.

btw, they had HUGE HUGE HUGE piles of snow every where, i still can't believe how many whales they have and how big they are. expect this place to go late into the season.
