Got back from my week long trip to sunday river...
Not to much to report
Monday - Wednesday hardpacked manmade conditions, with no natural snow. Lots of fun on groomers and dinking around on the snow whales that were left by mountain ops, but other than that no real fun (white heat wasn't open and obsession was closed for a noram race). The best run during this time period was air glow on aurora. Nice and steep with some good sections.
Thursday - lots of fun as they blew on agony all night and opened it up with fresh man made snow. Was fairly soft and powdery, in addition they left the whales up to jump off of. Now I'm accustomed to whales but these were another story, many had drop offs greater than 15 feet, on a superbly steep trail with fluff waiting for me at the bottom. I skied this run over 20 times thursday. It was just to much fun. I was yelling and hollering all the way down, launching off everything in site. By 1 on thursday the flakes had started to fly and things were going great, not only was there man made fluff but by days end 4 inches had piled up to play in. My first good day of the trip.
Woke up Friday to prolly around 8 inches total storm accumulation. Tons of fun, agony was good but ended up getting scraped up by mid day. White heat was the run of the day, ungroomed and fluffy. Pretty fun as its damn steep so your really able to refine your techinque. Friday was by far the stand out of the trip, we found some cat tracks from the top of barker and ended up following them down on thin cover with our good skis on. Overly sketchy and too early in the year, we got ourselves into one chute that was either grind this lip of ice down 20 meters or slide down on your back. Pretty rough, we survived as did my skis, can't say the same for everyone elses though. Overall a great day.
*Note this was a superb trip. We did it as a college trip from my school, so there were 40 other holligans staying with me in the condos. Let me just say it was pretty damn fun. Tuesday night the wailers came (bob marelys old band) and I have never seen more drunk and high locals in one place... some crazy lady maybe 40 with super long grey hair was there, what a riot. Certainly was a superb trip with good friends, and will be very memorable. Pics to come eventually
