As seen on Carnet du ski. The owner would be an investment company in the leisure business (VIVA).

Purchaser's news:

Viva First Project in Canada
Viva Investment Group President Mr Gabriel Tabarani and the Vice president Mr Geroges Filliol have signed an agreement with a Canadian group to purchase and acquire a 2200 acres resort site in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada. The closing date of the transaction is on or before 12 December 2005.

The project which Viva aims to build will contain: Ski Center, Golf Club, Tennis Academy, Sport Centre, Aquatic Centre, 300 room Five Star Hotel, Convention Center, 7 Inns of 45 rooms each, Rehabilitation and Health Centre, Fitness and Beauty Centre, Amusement Centre, Commercial Centre as well as Town Houses, City Houses, Condominiums, Chalets and an Helipad.

Viva president Mr Tabarani has already agreed with the American financial Institution FV Advantage through its president Mr J. Michael Standish and its executive general director Mr David Sauer, to arrange all the necessary financial needs for the construction of this large scale project which will amount to 337 Million Canadian Dollars, roughly equal to 275 Million US Dollars.

Viva has also received the two feasibility studies concerning this project, one from, the American firm, SNO-engineering Inc concerning the ski resort. The other written by the Canadian company Groupe Eurisko Inc. concerning the project?s other aspects.

In addition Viva has agreed in principal with APUR, a well-known Canadian company specializing in urban planning and design consultancy, to be responsible for the project?s supervision. Teknika of Sherbrooke will be employed as contractors.

Just read this depressing news, where does a duct tape skier leading a future generation of kids who appreciate natural skiing have left to go in the east. The choices are really starting to tumble. It?s amazing that a ski area just can?t sell itself on the skiing /boarding. Sutton was a real homegrown hill where the owners really gave the runs some serious thought before cutting or widening the trails. Just hike the area in the off-season and you can see the evidence of this. I am sure all of this will change.

The guy who runs Carnet du Ski is going to post an interview tonight with the alleged buyers of Sutton.

That laundry list of amenities looks suspiciously similar to what was proposed (and rejected) at Belleayre.

Very sad, if true. Sutton is a big favorite.

I totally agree with Anthony and James on this one, although Sutton has fallen off my radar screen of late. Regardless, this is still a great mountain

This story is getting stranger by the minute with the contradictories and all out weird statements.

More later unless Frank, Max or James wants to dive in and summarises the whole thing. For those you can read French, here is what is being written on the subject in zoneski.
