Hey, take a look to the the main page :

www.tenneymtn.com

I'm not sure if they talk about the tiny park they had this summer or if they still consider to open with the new mid-station on the double chairlift (according to Patrick for the mid-station).

I hope they will open their 1000' high trail !!

Hey, I also hope that t's not going to be too rough for you all on the east coast. Here, we should be ok but with 3" of rain and 50mph winds.

I wonder how Killington will respond to this threat of having their streak of "First In the East" opening days broken... doesn't look like they are planning to be open Oct 1st.

They already lost it last year, Jonny... but I admit that comparing Killington and Woodbury is a little bit tough.

Big White still claim to be the first important ski area to have opened for the 2001-02 season on oct 20, while Loveland opened on october 18 and remained open until may, while Big White reclosed fast to only reopen in november.

it's a real war ;)

I also wonder what will be the answer of Killington !!

The general sense i get from the mighty K is that they are becoming more complacient to opening and closing day... they know that they don't have to open first in order to have the longest season, but if they lose snow the way they did at the end of last season, they won't have the longest season for too much longer..

Seems that they have become a bit lax on the snowmaking in the recent past. (just my opinion though)

I remember big white opening early last year, but i didn't realize that they had closed again. However, i do remember Loveland opeing early and staying open... I was pretty excited when I found that out.

Killington will respond by manipulating the facts, much like they did last year."First resort to open top to bottom."My favorite spin on the facts goes to Sunday River for boasting White Heat as the "longest widest steepest lift serviced trail in the east".True.However,add a comma anywhere in that promo and it becomes untrue as W.H. is neither the longest trail nor the widest trail nor the steepest trail nor the only trail with a lift on it in the east.Brilliant marketing, but you cant fool a semi-educated die hard.Right?!

((*
*))NHPH

I agree, with NHPH, nothing like a little advertising to make people come to your resort. Oh well, as long as someone opens up soon I am there.
Porter, in NH

Jonny, the fact for Killington is that ASC is dying actually. As long as K will be managed by ASC, they won't be able to offer the long season skiing like we used to see in the last decades.

Killington should be beaten easily for the longest season in the east, by the big ski areas in New England and by most of the ski areas in Quebec (except the townships). Just put a snowmaking system at the Valinouet and you have ski from september to july. They actually close in may with 0% snowmaking... imagine. St-Sauveur, La Réserve and the top north side of Tremblant could beat Killington (La Réserve was skied or skiable from october 17 to june 10, last season, with a very poor snowmaking investment.) In New England, as soon as Sunday River won't be in ASC, this one will possibly beat Killington, depending of who buy the mountain. If it's Intrawest or Booth Creek, don't even think about it, but if it's a rich maniac skier that buy it... ohhh.... oct-june.

Tenney could beat Killington too, this year, with a decent terrain and this is exactly what I expect of them.

(Hey, I'm sorry, I feel like it's the 20th time I say the same thing since last may, but we always come back on this subject !!)

I agree with you, NHPH, for the Marketing of the resorts like that and I'm proud to be the very very only person in the world to have skied, for the first time, the Chevreuil, of Mont Orford, on april 2, 1997, in the afternoon, with a friend called Sidney that I met in high-school at College Laval !! Yes, believe me, I'm the very only one in the world to have done that !!!! (This is an exageration, but it's just like their marketing... very easy to be "unique", with all that !) (I remember the date cause this run is officially my very best ever)

Let's pray for early snowfalls !!!!!!

Yeah, I agree with all the hype about marketing. It's too bad that they try to put some kind of spin on the facts to make it seem better.
But all that really matters is that some place will open in the east, soon

You said it !!

On the last 3 years, the 1st snowfalls in the east (except on the high peaks) were on october 8-9. So this is less than 3 weeks away ;) I don't except to see 1½ feet of snow on oct 10 like in 2000 at MRG, but just a little bit of white stuff on the webcams will be soooo nice !!!!

I have some Good News and Bad News about Tenney's openning day. I was really impressed that someone from Tenney returned my call today. I left a message last Friday about what was happening for October 1st.

The Good News:

Tenney will be opening on October 1st, however it only includes the terrain park that was openned a few days this Summer.

The Bad News:

Tenney was hoping to open a 1000ft vertical blue run (according to the latest Skiing Mag), however the area has experience some problems with the new snowmaking system (as discused this Summer) and will not be able to open for trail skiing on October 1st as planned, but more like mid-November. Unfortunately the news from Skiing is outdated by three months.

Future:
So Killington will probably still be able to claim first in the East. However, it is probably only a question of time.

This is a bad new, Patrick... but it's not a surprising new !

Mid-november seems very laaate for me, though. A sure thing, the ICS technology didn't proved a lot of thing at Tenney. I don't think that they will keep the resort, if I think to what I learned in college. Snowmagic will try to sell Tenney and try another door for their expansion in America. I think their best door should be to associate with a snowmaking resort, like Killington by example, to provide snow in early season and late season. As we mentioned many times, the ICS would be incredibly useful, in may, to add snow on the bares of Superstar. To open all summer long as they wanted to do at Tenney, they would have to move north or west, I think... it's too warm in New England.
