This weekend

Just wondering who's going where. With the steady "few inches here, few inches there" over the past several days in northern VT, some place up there will likely be on my radar screen for Sunday (I have other obligations on Saturday).

Who's heading out this weekend?

Oh, and the attached current radar image from the First Tracks!! Online Weather Center helps to bolster my thought process. (click the "Download" link for the attachment below to launch the image in a separate window)

I'll be at Hunter on Sunday; I doubt I'll head further north until significantly more terrain is open and/or we get a good snowfall.

Do you ever ski at Hunter?

Cannon ticket is only 15 for students or whatever, I might make some turns and then hike to the top, where there is a lot of snow, alot. [sat]

Cannon's a haul from here -- there's no good way to head northeast across the state of VT. A weekend trip over there makes much more sense than a day trip for me.

As for Huntah, yes, I'll get down there this season -- although I confess that it's been about 14 years since I have (remember that 9 of those years were spent living in FL). I'll save that for a time when there's more there for me to see. For this weekend, I'll point the car to where there's actually something white on the ground that didn't come from a hose.

Of course, as I'm going Sunday and anything falling today will be useless to me as far as freshening surfaces is concerned, I'll be more interested in what falls tomorrow night. However, the current view of the Middlebury College campus at 350' elevation, below, is encouraging! It looks to be snowing pretty good in Montpelier at 525', too.

Here's a current shot from Montpelier that tells the current weather better than the shot of the capitol. Lovely view of Camel's Hump today, huh?

If will probably skiing within 30 minutes from here (trap in Ottawa this weekend). I think that a few of the areas around Ottawa will open this weekend, It snowed, it hasn't rained and it was -8c at 8am this morning.

Camp Fortune and Parkenham will be open, if Edelweiss is open I will probably make a few turns before the rain comes (pm on Saturday). I also need to pick up my season pass that I got for a steal (silent auction) (normal price: $200can - which is also a steal).

HOWEVER, this "skiing" definately doesn't compare with that day at Killington 2 weeks ago. Vertical: 600ft. :? I better get used to it, my daughter will be having ski lessons there 8 Saturday in a row.

Oooooh, ooooh, where didja' get the Middlebury pic/webcam shot from?

As for this weekend ....unless something special happens this afternoon, I'll pass and cross fingers for next week. I'm predicting that the forecasted rain event around Thursday will be cold and minor and finish off with a coating of snow. Then, towards the end of next week, we'll get just enough fresh over this modest base to allow for some nice skiing on something other than 1 Ribbon of Death costing $1.3million for a ticket or whatever it costs.

....oh well, it doesn't hurt to dream. Meanwhile, you - yes YOU - can do your part by after you put on your pajamas (remember the Winter ones that had the built in "feet" on 'em) and before you sleep, make sure that you say your prayers and include requests for snow.

Looks like the whites are getting snow too, this lady looks to be skiing in a field in North Conway.

A dusting of snow in the parking lot gradually increased to a foot or more just below treeline. Above treeline - mixture of crusty slab snow and ice sheets, with heaving riming, so ice has some texture.
-from Kevin on views from the top. Talking of the lafayette. That was yesterday morning as well. Looks like there will be some more deep turns this weekend!

I am planning on travelling to ski the next 3 weekends, so this weekend will be spent at home.

Dec 11 - Kmart or Mt Snow
Dec 18 - Windham, Mt Snow (trying to use up those free WM lift tix before Xmas)
Dec 24 - Sugarbush (can't beat the $5.50 lift tic!)
Dec 25 - MRG if its open, or maybe we'll head to LP and ski WF...still too soon to tell

I think for New Years weekend, we'll stick around here and see what Greek Peak has to offer, or maybe backcountry, or xc ski. I'm sure there will be snow by then!

Crap. this weekend I'm going to be looking at the brown grass... I think on Saturday I'll have a few beers and head up on the roof to hang christmas lights. few things mix better than ladders, alcohol, electricity and roofs. With a little luck I won't land in the yard. ](*,)

Good luck on that one; just too much of a drive for too little return at this point for me to think that way. Now, if you tell me about this great woods shot you skied Sunday, well..............

looks like cannon for me to catch first day of their season. it will certainly be a let down in terms of open terrain after two days of K so far this season, but tickets are cheap and cannon is where my heart is, so no fretting over just one way down.

I'll be skiing at whiteface. Went yesterday and skiied for a few hours and picked up my season pass, hoping to see a few more trails open tomorrow.

Well, depending on what this little clipper that's moving in now does, I'll likely be at Sugarbush tomorrow. Anyone else who wants to meet up for a few runs?
