Tremblant question

Tremblant? This weekend? Man, I'm shivering just thinking about it. Pack chemical heater packs, overmittens, fleece long johns, a windproof balaclava, and a down or primaloft shirt.

I suspect any off-piste is going to be very thin.

And a good book! Seriously, as much as I frown upon diluting the ski experience with such "amenities" as an indoor aquatic center and a mini-golf course (OK, OK...the latter is summer only, but you get my point), they'd be looking like very attractive options to freezing one's :!: off skiing Tremblant this weekend.

Or maybe I'm just getting old.

this weekend? when it's minus 23 celcius in toronto (like right now) it's probably minus a billion in tremblant.

in all seroiusness though, i was there right before christmas when it was this cold, and it was not fun. the lifts had a lot of trouble with freezing up, the windchill was unbelieveable, and i basically did 4 runs the whole day.

take a good book, make a couple of runs, and enjoy the what the quebecois call the "joie de vivre."

light snow this week and -15 for the end of the week.....hit Le Petit Caribou at night and it's all alright! \:D/

Heading up this weekend was wondering if anyone had any insight to some off-piste stuff

Unfortunately off-piste skiing is not really tolerated at Tremblant. I am not sure the conditions in the woods are that good presently either.

Before heading to Tremblant take note they only received about 5 cm of snow since the big melt last week (Thursday) where temperatures rose to 50 F. Now everything is frozen over. Conditions will probably be icy at best.
Snow Conditions

Snowfall past 24-hours : 2cm
Total snow this week (since Monday) : 2cm
Date and amount of last snowfall : 2005-01-19 : 2cm
Base depth : -
Number of runs open (% of total) : 87 of 94 (93%)
% of runs with machine-made snow : 80%
Primary condition : Machine Groomed
Secondary condition : Frozen Granular
Comment : Due to intense cold Dunca Express & Versant Soleil will be closed

Hope this helps.

Well being from the area around Tremblant , I can tell you that it snowed about 6 to 8 cm over the last 24 hours . The weekend is forecasted to be cold and clear. Currently minus 23 C out with light winds and clear conditions. The wind chill is what kills the skiing you can take the temperatures but a combination of cold temperatures and north west winds really brings on the cold. The temperatures should moderate by next week with more snow in the forecast. Below is the weekend forecast, check out the windchill.

Text Forecast from Environment Canada
Mont-Tremblant: Issued 06:54 PM EST Thursday 20 January 2005
Wind chill warning in effect.
Tonight .. Clear. Winds becoming north 20 km/h by midnight. Low minus 34. Extreme wind chill minus 47.
Friday .. Sunny. Winds north 20 km/h becoming light late in the morning. High minus 23. Extreme wind chill minus 48 in the morning.
Saturday .. Sunny. Low minus 31. High minus 19.
Sunday .. Sunny. Low minus 27. High minus 15.

Actually, I'm on the same road as Tremblant (let's say St-Jovite to be exact)... but 350 MILES northern.

It is actually -40 celsius (and farenheit lol) and here it's just better to don't think about wind chill cause it's too much looking like the top of Mt Washington #-o

So Tremblant is relatively hot when you consider it :)

For the off-piste, there is a good coverage in the laurentians actually, so I guess the off-piste could be good with the recent snow. The last report I'm seen from Mt Saint-Sauveur (yesterday night) was showing some great conditions in the off-pistes.

Off-pistes at Tremblant. The very best one in my opinion is the big canyon between the Beauchemin Bas and Sissy Schuss. I didn't ski it for something like 7-8 years, though, and you're in deep trouble if you get some problem there or if a ski patrol see you !!

The CBC looks good this year, according to previous reports. It's an official trail, but it's very narrow and very long (even though it's less long than previously)

Other than that, just explore and you'll find some great spots for sure (a tip : check out the power lines... :)) I don't say more ;)

minus a billion

from their website:

Temperature low: -35°C
Temperature high: -20°C

i stand corrected

Actually it's going to be colder.

It was -28c at 8am in Ottawa this morning (not wind-chill folks). Forecast high for today: -21c.

So you can just imagine the top of Tremblant today OR tomorrow morning.

Forecast High for Ottawa tomorrow is nice and warm at -19C :? . It's going to be a cold morning for my daughter ski lessons.

Frank, Tremblant gets less snow than the snow belt. in the lower Laurentians.

On-trail piste that are or were on the map. Tunnel (still on the map) and the old bottom half of Grand-Prix (right side in the main pitch), after that there are short two options (old liftline or to the left). That liftline is more or less skiable top to bottom (top half of the South side), however condtions might be very good right now.

Before I give you these clues for the real off-trail, some I have never skied AND the others I did somewhere in the 80s, but I have noticed tracks.

Off-piste clues (not sure how they are this year): (I didn't tell you) Take Axl & Moe trail and the woods off CBC, but do go to far off trail for this last one 'cause you'll won't be able to get back and be lost. There are a few others options, but these are definately outside the boundary.
