I do enjoy putting an 07 at the front of the date in the subject line.

I have been quite recently and off the boards for the past month due to a new puppy (Ari, a Flat Coated Retriever). Suffice to say, she has been quite a hand full. Besides that, I tend to calm down in June when full hikes up and down to/from the bowl are required. My last day was more than a month ago on the East Snowfields. As has become an annual tradition for me, I closed things out on the Tuckerman snow patch as close to the beginning of July as possible.

Much much more snow than the previous few years by a long shot (and given that my latest end of season run was July 2nd with less than half as much snow). Chute and Center Headwall are of course still skiable per Pat's report earlier in the week. What ever issues were causing lookers right to be an issue have been lifted (I am assuming hanging snow higher up on the headwall was the danger issue?). Met up with icelanticskier and his snowboarding buddy for some turns. Great to finally met you, Rog!!!

Length of the patch was stellar with a skiable section right over the arch and down to the stream. I would estimate a solid 150 vertical feet or so per run. Snow corned up and was sensational, very much unlike the typical frozen glacial hard pack I have experienced in years past. August could be in the cards for the truly adventurous for a turn or two. The skiable section over the arch will probably collapse sometime this week but superb 100+ vertical foot skiing is easily in the cards for next weekend and the weekend after that should be doable unless we get a heat wave.

Great day for suffering the round trip up to the bowl for 6 runs. About 7 or 8 sliders total in the ravine and lots of the usual stunned on lookers. I would like to thank Rog and his friend for going up and down the TRT ahead of me and saving me from answering all the usual questions. That's a season at 52 days with a 44% powder day percentage (7 of those days being race nights).

Great day fer sure steve! great to finally meet and ski with ya. one of the guys at the bottom caculated the vert to be a little over 200 vert ft per lap and for tony calculations. my 10 laps at 20 to a max of 32 turns per lap with an average of 25 turns per lap accounts for 250+ turns and over 2000 vert of perfect corn bliss on july 6th 2008. if super hero craig gordon had been present he'd a done like 60 turns per lap, i mean he gets 200+ per lap in pipeline bowl.
great day to end my ec ski season, 8 months, 105 days and one helluva ec season!
nice to finish it up with you!
